Nets vs Nuggets NBA Pick – November 9th

The NBA is set to have seven games on the board for Friday night. One of those games includes a matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Brooklyn Nets. The Nuggets have been red-hot to start out the season, which the Nets will look to slow down on November 9.

The Nets have gone 5-6 to begin the new season. Brooklyn is right outside the playoff picture early in the season in ninth place of the Eastern Conference. The Nets have won their last two games against the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns. Brooklyn’s win streak will be tested against Denver on the road on Friday night.

Denver has started the season with a record of 9-2. The Nuggets are currently in second place of the Western Conference, right behind the Golden State Warriors. Denver is coming off a loss to the Grizzlies in Memphis. The game came down to the wire, but the Nuggets loss by two in the end. Denver will look to bounce back with a win against the Nets.

Brooklyn and Denver have both surprised some with their start this season. These two teams will meet for the first time on Friday night. The Nets and Nuggets will meet one more time this season on February 6. With the Nets coming in on a little win streak and Denver playing extremely well to start the season, this could be a good game to watch.

Last Season’s Matchups

Brooklyn and Denver met up twice last season. The Nets hosted the first game between these two teams. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 22 points off the bench and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson dropped 18, but it was not enough. Jamal Murray had 26 points for the Nuggets. Nikola Jokic put up 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in route to a 124-111 win for Denver.

The second meeting of the season moved back to Denver. Tyler Zeller led the Nets in points with 21 off the bench, but the Nuggets would pull off the win again. Nikola Jokic went off on Brooklyn’s defense. He scored 41 points and had 12 rebounds. Denver pulled away with a 112-104 win in front of their home crowd.

The Nuggets were able to sweep the season series. It was also early in the season, which meant it was before the Nets were without D’Angelo Russell. Denver has been playing even better to begin this season, which makes me believe that they could get another win against Brooklyn.

The Nets have had a few injuries early in this season. Brooklyn is without Treveon Graham for an extended period of time, which is not the worst. The Nets could also be missing DeMarre Carroll on Friday night. Carroll has not played yet this season, but he is nearing a return to the lineup.

Denver has been hit with some injuries early in the season. The Nuggets have been missing Isaiah Thomas, Michael Porter Jr and Jarred Vanderbilt this season. As this Nuggets team gets healthy, their lineup will get really dangerous. Will Barton is also out for an extended period of time. Barton played in two games this season. The Nuggets have continued to find success with all their injuries though.

Denver is definitely hurting more from injuries. The Nuggets have managed to find success, which makes them an even scarier team as their players begin to get healthy. Brooklyn could get some nice help if DeMarre Carroll can return to their lineup against Denver.

Top Performers

Brooklyn has been led by Caris LeVert on offense. LeVert is averaging 20.5 points per game from the Small Forward spot. D’Angelo Russell has averaged 15.4 points and 5 assists per game to begin the season. The Nets have gotten some solid contribution from Spencer Dinwiddie off the bench. He has averaged 14.1 points per game.

The Nuggets have seen a really start from their two Guards. Gary Harris is averaging 18.5 points per game at the Shooting Guard spot. Jamal Murray has also averaged 18.5 points per game and 3.7 assists at Point Guard. Nikola Jokic has been really solid at Center. He is averaging 15.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

With Paul Millsap and Nikola Jokic, guarding the paint, I believe the Nets will need to beat Denver from the field. Murray and Harris play solid defense as well, which will make it even harder. The Nuggets have a really good rotational defense, which could really mess up Brooklyn. Most teams have struggled against it this season. Denver holds their opponents to an average of 101 points per game, which is second best in the NBA.

Pick Overview

Denver’s defense has been spectacular this season and their offense can hold its own as well. I believe the Nuggets will bring an end to the Nets winning streak. If Carroll comes back for Brooklyn, it might help a bit, but I do not think it will be enough to beat the Nuggets. Denver is coming off a tough loss on the road and will be looking to bounce back.

BetOnline has Denver listed as -9½ against the spread. While this is a pretty big line, I believe the Nuggets have a good chance to cover at home. Brooklyn’s winning streak is not likely to go on much longer, which makes me believe they could stumble against Denver. I am taking the Nuggets against the points at home.
