It’s easy to forget that Irving was the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft. The “LeBron Homecoming” narrative was so powerful, and ‘Bron’s status is so firmly cemented as the “best player in the world” that it has almost been like he was playing with the Cavs of five years ago the way this team has been covered.
Kyrie reminded everyone last night that the Cavs are far from a one-man show. His 57 points were the most scored in the NBA this season and he became the youngest player in NBA history to net two 50-point games in the process. I heard, though I haven’t researched enough to present this as absolute fact, that he is the first player to EVER score 50 points in a game against Coach Popovich as an NBA head coach. Insane. And in the process, the Cavs delivered yet another powerful message that they may not just be the favorites to win the East, but after reeling off 14 of 15 against the West, including the Warriors, Mavs, Spurs, Clippers and really ever legitimate contender, win the NBA Title as well.
Meanwhile, what the heck is going on in Denver? The worst team in the NBA since Jan 1st has now reeled off consecutive wins against the top two teams in the NBA, Atlanta and Golden State. Beware of wagering on teams with huge conference standings leads in March and April….

Today’s Free Pick:
Brooklyn Nets -6 at Philadelphia 76’ers
The Sixers have quietly been playing some pretty quietly playing some high-level basketball. Meanwhile the Nets stink. I mean, they reek out loud. Why are they favored by half a dozen over anyone on the road? I wouldn’t make them six point favorites at Rupp Arena, let alone an NBA venue. They have lost five straight games and have failed to cover in all of them.
Philly has won two of their last three and covered in four of five as their two losses to OKC and Chicago both came on the road and in overtime. This is a competitive team right now and I expect them to compete at a high level tonight at home.
Brooklyn just has the look of a team looking to the offseason and ready to cash in their chips. It’s clear this team will be blown up and reassembled and they got old and injured at the same time and things are a big mess. They’ve been outscored by an average of 13 points in their last five losses.
It’s never a cozy position to be cocksure wagering on the Sixers. But getting six points at home against a train wreck like the Nets? It’s impossible not to like the young Sixers tonight. This may not be a game worthy of your League Pass, but it is a good wagering opportunity.
