New Orleans Pelicans vs. Los Angeles Clippers Pick – NBA April 3, 2022

The New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers clash at Arena on the west coast Sunday evening. The Pelicans have been hanging around Los Angeles following a 114-111 win over the Lakers on Friday.

In another display of the Lakers’ incompetence at the end of a game, they didn’t come up in the clutch. LeBron James and Anthony Davis were on the floor together again, but this did little to suppress the Pelicans.

The Pelicans advanced to 34-43 with the win and remain ninth in the Western Conference. They are ahead of the Spurs by two games for the ninth seed, which will result in a trip to the play-in tournament. CJ McCollum and Brandin Ingram are on fire at the moment for the Pelicans.

This team may not go deep into the playoffs, but it would be a good learning experience for the Pelicans if they can get past the play-in. The Pelicans have their moments, like right now, for instance.

New Orleans has won three straight with four wins in their last five outings. They beat the Lakers twice during that stretch, but their best win was a 126-109 clinic over the Chicago Bulls on March 24.

The Clippers had a statement win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night. The Clippers smashed the Bucks for a 153-119 win in an impressive attempt. Robert Covington went off for 43 points in the victory.

Paul George took the game off after returning two games earlier in a 121-115 win over the Utah Jazz. However, George is expected back on the floor tonight at Arena.

Pelicans vs. Clippers Prediction:

New Orleans is finding their stride behind CJ McCullom and Brandon Ingram at the right time. Acquiring McCullom doesn’t turn the Pelicans into a serious contender, but he’s certainly helping this team play better basketball.

Despite the recent success, the Pelicans can be a streaky bunch. Before winning three in a row, they lost seven of their previous 11 games.

Their offense can be spotty, and while it’s better with McCullom on the floor, they can go cold. It could be a problem tonight against a defensive-minded team like the Clippers.

The Clippers are holding teams to a 45.2% field goal percentage for the seventh-best mark in the NBA. Their defensive numbers went down without Paul George, but he will be active tonight.

The offense has been in top form recently, as the Clippers have scored an average of 123.2 points per game on 50% shooting.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. LA Clippers Betting Trends:

  • 5-14 overall in their previous 19 games at Los Angeles
  • 6-2 ATS in thier previous eight games
  • 4-0 ATS in their previous four games as an underdog
  • 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games versus a team with a losing record
  • UNDER is 14-3-1 in their previous 18 games on the road
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games at home
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games as a betting favorite
  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games as a betting favorite
  • 5-2 ATS in their previous seven versus a team with a losing road record
  • 14-5 overall in their previous 19 games

The Pelicans have been hanging around Los Angeles over the weekend. They are feeling confident and likely had a fun night on the town.

Is there going to be too much confidence going into Sunday night? This could be a spot where the Pelicans come up with a flat effort.

They’ve never been much of a road team, where the Pelicans are 16-22 with just 106.8 points scored per game. The Pels have connected at a 44.7% clip as a visitor.

With Paul George back on the floor for the Clippers tonight, look for a complete effort for the home squad at Arena. I’m going with the Clippers in a 113-106 win to cool off the streaking Pelicans.
