The New York Knicks bring a four-game winning streak into Dallas as the Mavericks are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Both teams are looking for solid playoff spots in trying to avoid the play-in scenario.
The 6-seed Knicks sit one game behind the Hawks and Celtics, who are tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference while they are 0.5 games ahead of the Heat and a full game ahead of the Hornets. Dallas is one game off of Portland for the 6-seed in the West and the Mavericks have a 2.5 games lead on Memphis.
The Knicks defeated that Mavericks, 99-86, at MSG on April 2. New York outscored Dallas, 27-17, in the fourth quarter to post to ‘W’ as Alec Burks led New York with 20 points as he came off the bench and made 6-of-11 field goals. Julius Randle just missed a triple-double with 14 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. Luka Doncic lead the Mavs with 26 points eight rebounds and seven assists in 36 minutes.
The road team has won six of the last seven matchups in this series and the Knicks had won three out of four before the loss two weeks ago.

Advantage, New York
Tom Thibodeau’s work with the New York Knicks as a defensive wizard has made the team viable with immediacy in his first season. As the four-game win streak is the team’s first of the season, the defensive presence has been there in limiting the three, but check the offense. New York has averaged 115.5 points per game in those four and the Knicks have shot 44.8 percent from the field which encompasses two huge three-point shooting nights where they made 14-of-32 vs. the Grizzlies and 17-of-33 vs. the Knicks.
With that NYK is not a high-volume three-point team although they make 37.8 percent (8th/NBA) from distance as the Mavs only blow 36.3 percent (11th/NBA).
Key Knicks Stat:
Julius Randle continues his break out season as he has career highs so far with 22.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists. He is also eighth in the NBA with 33 double-doubles and has improved his three-points per centavo from 27.7 to 39.9 from last season until now. Randle has averaged 26.8 points and 9.0 boards in the Knicks’ four-game win streak.
The Knicks have come up big in close games as they are 7-6 in games decided by three points or less, which is the most wins since the 2016-17 campaign. They also are 10-10 in-game decided by five points or less.
The Mavericks are known as a defense-first team as well as they limit opposition to 45.6 percent from the field (6th/NBA) and are solid on the defensive interior as opponents only shoot 52 percent. The interior defense against Randle is a storyline in the game. Since Randle passes so well out of the double-team, the Mavs’ three-point defense will be tested. Teams find shots bit they are defended as they make 36.3 percent of the shots (11th/NBA). Alec Burks (40.8%-3) and Reggie Bullock (39.9%-3) will challenge the Mavs’ three-point defense.
Key Mavericks Stat:
Luka Doncic continues to rewrite his basketball autobiography as we add the buzzer-beater on Wednesday. He is only the fourth Maverick with multiple buzzer-beaters as he has averaged 50 percent from the floor over his last four games as he is shooting 53.2 percent and averaging 29 points per game over those four. He will test the Knicks defense and how Thibodeau decides to defend him throughout the game will be an interesting storyline.
Kristaps Porzingis has had 20 or more points in the Mavs’ last four games and at least 10 rebounds in three of the last four where he is averaging 25.2 points and 12..5 rebounds in those four games. Porzingus has faced his old team three times since leaving New York and averages 20.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in those three outings.
Winner: Mavericks 105, Knicks (+5.5) 101
