There are three games on the schedule tonight in the NBA, with the LA Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks spearheading the slate. That should be a thriller in Milwaukee between two of the finest teams in the league. The New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors should put on a pretty good show later in the night in San Francisco.
The Warriors are coming off a 121-99 win over the San Antonio Spurs last night. They showed no letdown from their come from behind win over the LA Lakers on Monday. That was some kind of effort from the Warriors to erase a 19-point deficit to win, 115-113. It could be seen as a turning point for the Warriors this season.
The Warriors came back on Wednesday night to clear the Spurs in an impressive showing for a 121-99 win. Curry scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds to help the Warriors advance to 8-6 on the season. If Andrew Wiggins and James Wiseman can continue to contribute consistently, then the Warriors are going to suddenly be a threat.
I’m not saying a contender, because they need Klay Thompson for that, but a threat. Maybe the Warriors pull something off at the trade deadline and bring in additional help to make them a contender, but the Western Conference is just far too tough for the Dubs to compete with a healthy squad. A lot of people don’t understand how much Klay means to the Warriors’ offense.
Steph will undoubtedly get hot from the field to carry the Warriors against great teams like the Lakers. However, doing that for four games in a seven-game series? I’m not that optimistic for Golden State. That’s why they play the games, though, and I maybe shouldn’t underestimate the heart of Steph. Following two big wins, Golden State will be back out on the court once again on Thursday night.
The Warriors can’t gear down because they see the New York Knicks ahead. The Knicks are not as talented as the Lakers, naturally, and even the Spurs are a better team. However, this is a young Knicks team that are at least going in the right direction. They’ve been competitive against some quality opponents this season. Head below for our free Knicks vs. Warriors pick on January 21, 2021.
New York Knicks vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Betting Odds:
Knicks vs. Warriors Prediction:
The Knicks may not be ready to be a contender in the Eastern Conference yet, but you have to like where this team is going. After getting out of the basement of the conference last year, the Knicks appear poised to take a much bigger leap forward in 2020-21. The Knicks finished with a record of 21-45 a season ago to move up from last to 12th in the Eastern Conference. This season they’ve been playing around .500 ball going into Thursday night.
The Knicks are eighth with a record of 7-8 following a 91-84 win over the Orlando Magic. Their most impressive win of the season might have been before that outing, as they dispatched the Celtics, 105-75, in Boston in what was a statement win. A statement in the sense that the Knicks are no longer doormats for other teams to walk all over. You can also argue that a 130-110 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on December 27 was their most impressive effort. In any case, we didn’t see this from the Knicks stretched out over months, never mind a few weeks apart.
Their defensive energy has been a pleasant surprise for the Knicks. They have conceded just 102.7 points per game to lead the NBA. The Knicks have been able to frustrate some talented offenses, too. They haven’t only been beating up, and skewing their numbers against bad offenses. If RJ Barrett can take the next step as a playmaker, then the Knicks are really going to have something brewing. The Warriors are 12th in the NBA, with an average of 112.3 points per game.
They’ve been feeling good recently, but after two big wins over the Lakers and Spurs, and on a back-to-back tonight, this looks like a classic letdown spot for the Warriors. The Knicks are no longer a team that you can simply show up against and automatically get a win by going through the motions. I suspect we see the Warriors go through the motions tonight. The points in a tight game looks like the way to go in San Francisco.
