New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Clippers Pick – NBA March 6, 2022

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are at Arena looking for a win on Sunday night. The Clippers have learned how to win without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

They are on a five-game winning streak and a win in seven of their previous eight games. The injury to Paul George appeared like a death blow to their season. Already without Leonard, this didn’t look good for the Clippers.

I’m not sure if Doc Rivers would have been the guy to figure this one out without those two on the floor. Tyronn Lue has done a fantastic job at putting this team in the right direction despite two star players absent.

Others have used the opportunity to take over a leading role on the floor. Reggie Jackson and Ivica Zubac have really stepped up their games.

I’ve never opposed Jackson in his career. He’s always touched close to the underrated side. Zubac has impressed me, though.

He is scoring over 10 points and 8 rebounds per game this season and has been in good form as of late. The Clippers have needed Zubac to step up, and he’s answered the call with injuries piling up.

The Clippers pulled away from the Lakers for a 132-111 win in their most recent win.

It was another discouraging performance from the Lakers versus their inter-city rival. This was their second win against the Lakers in four games.

The Knicks are on a seven-game losing streak and coming off a crushing loss. They were leading all game versus the Phoenix Suns in Arizona and allowed the Suns to win in the final seconds.

It was an entertaining final minute, which ended on a Cam Johnson buzzer-beater and a 115-114 win. Ouch. That hurts the Knicks, who have been looking for any kind of bounce in their favor.

Knicks vs. Clippers Prediction:

The Knicks have to feel demoralized after going the distance against the Suns and losing. They were leading that game for pretty well the entire game.

The Suns stole one from the Knicks. Phoenix did not deserve a win in that one. It wasn’t a good game for the home team, and they still got out of it with a win.

That’s what tends to happen against bad teams, though. The Knicks are 13 games below .500, and this is a far different campaign than they experienced a season ago.

The offense is spotty and hasn’t been consistent, while the defense isn’t elite enough to carry the load. The Knicks are 27th with 105.2 points per game and a 43.4% field goal percentage.

If it’s tough from the field, picking up points at the free-throw line would help. The Knicks don’t do that well either, though. They are 25th in free-throw shooting with a 74.5% success rate.

New York Knicks vs. LA Clippers Betting Trends:

  • 2-7 ATS in their previous nine games on the road
  • 2-9 ATS in their previous 11 games as an underdog
  • 1-6 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 1-9 ATS in their previous ten games on a Sunday
  • 2-6 ATS in their previous eight games as an underdog on the road
  • 7-1 ATS in their previous eight games
  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games after a win
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games at home
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games versus a team with a losing record
  • OVER is 6-0 in their previous six games

The oddsmakers and public are sleeping on the Clippers lately. The Clippers have covered the spread in seven of their last eight games as the oddsmakers continue to undervalue this team.

The Clippers’ defense has held up well in the absence of George and Leonard. They are allowing 107.4 points per game with a 44.5% FGA for sixth in the NBA.

The Knicks’ best offensive weapon might be the three, but that isn’t saying much. With a 35.2% three-point percentage, the Knicks are 16th in the NBA. However, the Clippers are third with a 33.8% against versus the three.

It hasn’t been all defense for the Clippers as of late, though. They’ve poured in 118.2 points per game on 49.7% shooting through their last five outings.

This team plays as a cohesive unit and is well-aware of their assignments in this lineup without George. After a gut-wrenching loss, expect the Knicks to have little to offer at Arena on Sunday night.

They should show something early, but the Clippers likely grind away and pull ahead. I’m on the Clippers in a 113-103 game at home to win and cover.
