The Knicks are winning the East! The Knicks are winning the East!
Pundits and fans were screaming it from the mountaintops after New York’s thrilling blowout victory in Miami, without Carmelo Anthony nonetheless. The Knicks followed up that awesome performance two nights later by getting their butts kicked in Chicago and allowing that offensive genius Joakim Noah to go for 33 points (yes, that is sarcasm).
It isn’t a huge story that an NBA team follows up a huge emotional win with a stink bomb, but given the bluster of Knick nation, it is at least a little humorous.
So which Knick team shows up tonight at home against Denver for the third game in four nights?? Let’s dig into the matchup for tonight’s free pick.
Denver Nuggets at New York Knicks -5 (Total: 201)
Denver enters the game at 10-10, with a 5-9 record on the road. If you are a Nugget fan, you optimistically point out that Denver has played 70% of its games on the road this season and is still at .500. If you are wagering on the game, you look at the 36% winning percentage away from home, and like New York’s chances of winning.
As a matter of fact, the Knicks are perfect this season at the Garden (7-0), including wins over Miami, Indiana and Dallas. Their point differential is a staggering 15.3 ppg on their home floor, with their offense averaging over 104 points and their defense holding teams under 90. That is bad news for the already offensively-challenged Nuggets.
The concern for New York would be some tired legs, playing three games in four night and given the fact they are an older ballclub who relies heavily on making jumpshots to win games. Will their shots be a little flatter tonight? It is generally what happens when team get a little tired.
I think they will win the game tonight. Their perfect home record coupled with Denver’s road woes are just too much to ignore. But I also think tonight is a good opportunity to double-dip and also bet the UNDER. Denver doesn’t defend well, but I do think the Knicks will have trouble lighting up the scoreboard from three point land with the fatigue factor. And despite the fact the Nuggets put up some points, it is more a result of tempo than offensive brilliance.
Look for the tempo to be slightly slower tonight and for the score to remain in double-digits.
Give me the Knicks to win and cover, but also control the tempo and keep the score a little lower than these two teams might otherwise tally.
