Nuggets vs. Magic Pick NBA – March 22nd

We notched a third straight NBA victory last night to continue the second half of the season, posting a 20-9 ATS mark post-All Star Break. The win last night was less about Memphis being great at home than it was about the Portland Trailblazers sliding dangerously down the Western Conference standings. They’ve been on the road a ton, which is part of the trouble, but this star-crossed franchise could also be really missing Wesley Matthews as well. They are now 3-5 without their energizer and top perimeter defender and look more like a first-round exit than a team that can contend for a title. From Brandon Roy to Greg Oden, this franchise can’t catch a break, and while I have no rooting interest in general, I do hope their season doesn’t implode the last three weeks…

Let’s see if we can make it four in a row tonight with today’s free NBA pick.

Today’s Free Pick:

Denver Nuggets at Orlando Magic -1

I would hate to tear you away from March Madness viewing, so I figured, why not pick a game no one other than the players’ parents could sit through watching? I kid, but truly, this is a game only a wagerer could love. The Magic have lost six of their last seven games while Denver has lost three straight, all by double digits, since their bizarre brief late season resurgence.

Denver has played four straight road games and has been away from home for a full week, so don’t expect the sharpest performance tonight to conclude to roadie. Meanwhile, Orlando is still at home after a night off following their win over Portland. They should be fresh and are playing on their home floor, should give a good effort tonight.

Denver is just 10-25 away from home this season and is nine games under .500 ATS on the season. It’s been a miserable year in Denver, and despite the slightly imrpived attitude since the dismissal of Coach Brian Shaw, it is still a team just trying to wrap up the season and start fresh next year. Meanwhile, the Magic seem to have a little more youthful vigor at this point and a roster of guys looking to elevate and improve their games.

It won’t be pretty tonight, but if you can get any NBA team at a pick ‘em on their home floor against a road team that is under .300, it’s hard to walk away from that opportunity. They don’t come often in the NBA, so I have no intention of watching this game, but I will take the opportunity for a favorable wager.
