Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Pick – NBA December 1, 2021

The Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics are at TD Garden on Wednesday night. The Celtics are coming off a 109-97 win over the Toronto Raptors to avoid a three-game losing streak. They were coming off a 96-88 loss versus the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

That’s not a game you want to lose versus a very mediocre Spurs team. The Celtics had some kick in their step coming back home to avoid another loss. Prior to the loss to the Spurs, they didn’t come close in a 123-104 loss against the Brooklyn Nets.

Boston is going into tonight with a record of 11-10. They’ve been awfully disappointing and have looked discombobulated at times. Injuries have played a role in their issues, but it doesn’t explain all of the Celtics’ problems this season.

Marcus Smart hasn’t been too happy with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, and while there hasn’t been much noise regarding that recently, in the background Smart likely doesn’t care too much for the situation. Smart wants the ball more on offense, but his role on the team is as a defender.

The Celtics are the kind of team that needs to have chemistry to operate correctly. They don’t necessarily have a superstar to put them over the top, and Evan Fournier isn’t with the Celtics any longer. It’s tough sledding to compete with the best teams in the NBA under their current situation.

The 76ers are at 11-10 on the season, but feeling much better now that they have Joel Embiid back on the floor. They lost back-to-back games to the Warriors, 116-96, and Timberwolves, 121-120 OT, before getting back on track with a win versus the Magic, 101-96. Head below for our free 76ers vs. Celtics pick on December 1, 2021.

76ers vs. Celtics Prediction:

Joel Embiid made his return against the Timberwolves on November 27. He looked terrific with 42 points and 14 rebounds.

There was no evidence of an injury bothering Embiid. He also had 2 blocks and shot 50% from three. When things start to flow for the 76ers with Embiid back in the lineup, the 76ers should be in fine shape.

They need to make up for a mediocre start this season, and getting Embiid back in the mix is a good start. The 76ers have been just average of both ends of the floor.

Philadelphia has recorded 107.4 points per game for 15th in the NBA. They are 16th with 106.4 points against per game.

With Embiid back in the lineup, expect both the offense and defense to improve for the 76ers. I’m confident that the 76ers are going to get up for this one against a rival in Embiid’s third game back.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Betting Trends:

  • 5-2-1 ATS in their previous eight games after a win
  • 6-2-1 ATS in their previous nine games on a Wednesday
  • 4-10-2 ATS in their previous 16 games as an underdog
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the Celtics
  • UNDER is 9-2 in their previous 11 games in the Atlantic Division

  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games at TD Garden
  • 5-15 ATS in their previous 20 games versus the Atlantic Division
  • 0-4 ATS in their previous four games versus the 76ers
  • 12-6 ATS in their previous 18 games in December
  • UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the Eastern Conference

The 76ers have struggled mightily at second chance opportunities. They are 30th in the NBA in offensive rebounding, though that’s what happens when you remove Embiid from the equation.

Philadelphia should see an improvement in their rebounding with Embiid back as well. Having Ben Simmons on the floor isn’t required for the 76ers, but they do need Embiid or winning games is difficult.

Look for this one to be a competitive game on Wednesday night at TD Garden. I’m not running to the window to lay points on the Celtics.

Embiid has had a couple of games to shake off the rust, and he should be in great form in Boston tonight. In a game that could go down to the wire, the points with the 76ers looks like good value.
