The Philadelphia 76ers are on the road for their fifth straight game on Tuesday night in Denver, Colorado. Following this spot in Colorado, the 76ers will close out this road trip against the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Thursday back in their own time zone. Despite dealing with a significant injury to Joel Embiid, the 76ers have been holding their heads high above water in the Eastern Conference. They are still leading the East with a record of 32-14 with a half game advantage on the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets barely survived against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves last night to get within a half game of the 76ers. When the Nets are at full health, they are going to be tough to beat, but their defense is going to leave them vulnerable in the playoffs. The addition of bigs Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge will hopefully shore up some of their defensive problems, but two aging vets won’t fix everything. Enter the 76ers, a team that likes to play on the defensive floor a heck of a lot more than the Nets do.
Philadelphia had a four-game winning streak snapped in Los Angeles at the Staples Center against the LA Clippers on Saturday. They were coming off a 109-101 win over the Lakers on Thursday before they were upended in the same building against the other LA team, 122-112. Despite failing to win and cover, the 76ers have been one of the best bets of the season in the NBA.
They’re 26-18-2 ATS, and if you have just been tailing the 76ers this season, you’d bankroll would be in the positive. The 76ers face a tough challenge versus a quality Denver Nuggets team tonight. The Nuggets are looking for their third straight win following a 113-108 win over the New Orleans Pelicans and blowout over the Atlanta Hawks, 126-102. This was after a less than perfect performance against the Toronto Raptors in a 135-111 loss.
The Nuggets enter with a record of 3-2 in their previous five outings and 28-18 overall. They’re fifth in the Western Conference, trailing the leading Jazz by seven games. With an MVP candidate in Nikola Jokic healthy, the Nuggets could surprise come playoff time. That said, the Nuggets haven’t been able to get over the hump in the Jokic era yet. Head below for our free 76ers vs. Nuggets pick on March 30, 2021.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Betting Odds:
76ers vs. Nuggets Prediction:
The 76ers have been doubted all season, especially after the Joel Embiid injury. The public and oddsmakers haven’t respected them enough, and that’s why you see them at 26-18-2 ATS. The Sixers are still working the ball around well offensively and scoring points without Embiid in the lineup. They are certainly going to need him to make a deep postseason run. However, it’s fine enough for now in the regular season, they’ve learned to adapt.
The 76ers are ninth in the NBA with 114.8 points scored per game. They’re connecting at a pretty efficient clip of 48% from the field. If the Sixers didn’t turn the ball over so much against the Clippers, that would have been a much closer game. Doc Rivers did address the turnover problems after the game, so they didn’t ignore the problem in that loss. If they can take care of the ball better, and I’m sure they will after emphasizing it after the loss against the Clippers, the 76ers are going to be a live dog in Denver on Tuesday night.
The Sixers’ defense is what separates them from the Nets in the East. The Nets are not consistent in the least in that regard. And while the Clippers made the Sixers look ordinary, primarily because of the turnovers I just talked about, they are more than fine. In their previous five outings, they’ve allowed an average of 105.2 points per game. Overall, the Sixers are seventh in the NBA with 109.5 points against per game, and holding teams to a field goal percentage of 45.1% for fourth in the league.
They’ve had no issues with going to Denver and playing well. Note that the 76ers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 trips to Colorado and 15-4-2 ATS overall. The fourth-best offense in the NBA is going to be tough to handle on the road tonight, but the 76ers likely provided enough resistance to keep this game close. The points on the visiting team is where I would look if you want to make a play on the 76ers and Nuggets. This should turn out to be a highly entertaining contest at Ball Arena in Denver.
