Philadelphia 76ers vs Utah Jazz NBA Pick – December 27th

The NBA is set up for another exciting night of basketball on Thursday night. Five games will be on the board for December 27. One of the games will be between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz. Both teams had big games on Christmas Day and will look to put up another solid performance on Thursday night. The game will be on TNT at 10:30 PM Eastern.

Philadelphia has started out the season with a record of 22-13. The 76ers are currently sitting in fourth place of the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia lost their game against the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day, but they have won three of their last five games. The 76ers will look to get a big win on the road on Thursday night.

The Jazz have gone 17-18 to start out the season, which has put them in eleventh place of the Western Conference. Utah had a big win at home against the Portland Trail Blazers on Christmas night. The Jazz have picked up their game recently, winning three of their last four games. Utah will look to get back to an even record with another win at home on Thursday night.

Thursday night’s matchup between the 76ers and the Jazz will be the second and final matchup of the season series. Both teams were playoff teams last season and I expect them to put up another close game on December 27. Here is my best bet between Philadelphia and Utah.

Previous Matchups

Last season, the 76ers and the Jazz met up twice during the regular season. Philadelphia was able to sweep Utah 2-0. The 76ers won by score of 104-97 and 107-86. Both teams were able to make it to the second round of the playoffs for their respective conferences, but Philadelphia had the better performances against the Jazz. They will look to repeat that success on Thursday night.

The first meeting of this season was hosted by the 76ers on November 16. Utah had a big night from Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell had 31 points for the Jazz. Utah’s starting lineup scored 83 points, but they did not get a lot of help from their bench. Jimmy Butler dropped 28 points, while Joel Embiid had another 23 points. Philadelphia rode their two stars to a 113-107 win at home.

The 76ers have won the last three games against the Jazz and will look to make it four in a row on Thursday night. Philadelphia has put up solid defensive performances against Utah, keeping them under 100 points in both games last season. I expect the 76ers to keep a similar game plan to try and knock off the Jazz again on Thursday night.

Playmaking Battle

The 76ers have been the best rebounding team this season, pulling down an average of 47.7 rebounds per game. Philadelphia has also been doing really well moving the ball. The 76ers have averaged 26.8 assists per game, which is second best in the NBA. Philadelphia will look for these two things to give them the edge on Thursday night.

Utah has not been as good as Philadelphia on the boards, but are ranked in the upper half of the league. The Jazz have averaged 43.8 rebounds per game, which is a decent step behind Philadelphia. Utah has been almost as good in their playmaking ability as the 76ers. The Jazz have been averaging 24.9 assists per game.

Philadelphia has been the best rebounding team this season, which matched with their assists per game, makes them one of the best playmaking teams in the NBA this season. These are both big edges to have over other teams. The 76ers will look for this to lead them over Utah.

Top Performers

Joel Embiid has had a really solid season to this point in the season. Embiid is averaging 26.5 points and 13 rebounds per game this season. Jimmy Butler has averaged 19 points and 5 rebounds per game since coming over from the Minnesota Timberwolves. J.J. Reddick has been putting up one of the best seasons of his career, averaging 18 points per game. Ben Simmons is close to averaging a triple-double with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists per game.

The Jazz’s young star Donovan Mitchell has been doing really well this season. Mitchell is averaging 20 points per game this season. Rudy Gobert has been doing really well at the Center spot. He is averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds per game. Ricky Rubio has averaged 13 points and 6.5 assists per game running the Point Guard position. Joe Ingles and Jae Crowder has averaged 12 points per game this season.

Ben Simmons and J.J. Redick will match up with Ricky Rubio and Donovan Mitchell on Thursday night. Simmons has a big size advantage on Rubio, while Redick will look to have a big night from behind the arc. Jimmy Butler has a nice advantage against Joe Ingles. Rudy Gobert will look to use his defensive specialty to slow down Joel Embiid in the paint.

Pick Overview

I believe that the 76ers have a lot of mismatches against Utah on Thursday night. Philadelphia’s playmaking ability and rebounding also give them an edge against the Jazz. While Utah has home court advantage, I believe the 76ers have a good chance to pull off the upset on the road. Philadelphia is coming off a tough loss in overtime against the Celtics and I believe they bounce back against the Jazz.

BetOnline has Utah listed as a -5 against the spread. The Jazz are at home, but I believe the 76ers have the better team, which should have them favored on the road. Philadelphia has had a lot of success against Utah recently and I believe it continues on Thursday night. I am taking the 76ers with the points because of how they match up against the Jazz.
