It’s never easy to lay 13 points in an NBA game, but we pulled the trigger last night with the Warriors facing the road-soft and struggling Pistons and we were rewarded with an easy winner. No team in NBA history has been more deadly in short, devastating stretches than the Warriors, who flexed their spurtability with a third quarter 41-19 run that put the game to bed.
The Warriors were in vintage, fun and balanced form, with Durant, Curry and Thompson all netting 23-25 points and Draymond playing the role of happy facilitator with 13 assists and 9 rebounds and only four shot attempts. The Dubs are one game from the turn at 34-6, which puts them squarely on pace to win 70 games.
Yet still little excitement UNLESS they can make the turn 35-6. The reason? Game #41 is the awaited rematch against the Cavs who shell-shocked them on Christmas Day.
The win last night pushed us to 7-3 ATS over our last ten picks and looking for more this evening on a crowded Friday slate of games.
Today’s Free Pick:
Detroit Pistons at Utah Jazz -8
Last night they got deluged by offense. Tonight, they get smothered by defense. There are lots of different roads to travel to an NBA loss, and the Pistons will get to experience the exact opposite scenario tonight, with one similarity.
A blow-out loss.
I’m fading Detroit pretty hard right now anyway. The Pistons are now 8-14 ATS on the road and 2-5 ATS on short rest. They have dropped six of ten straight up overall and just haven’t LOOKED good lately. Even more telling, they are 5-11 ATS as a road underdog, which means they aren’t just losing the games they are supposed to, they are losing them convincingly.
Utah has been a little spotty at times, failing to cover in seven of their last ten games, so they aren’t the easiest bet under normal circumstances. But catching a road-weary Pistons team on short rest and getting to lay single digits isn’t a normal circumstance. They have the third-best +/- in the NBA against non-conference teams, so they have fared well against the East all season long.
There are a lot of numbers that favor Utah, plus, when in doubt; ‘good team at home on rest versus mediocre team on the road on short rest’ is a really good recipe for winning more wagers than one loses.
