Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Pick – NBA October 25, 2021

The Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers are scheduled to meet tonight at the Staples Center. The Clippers are looking for their first win after dropping their first two games against the Golden State Warriors, 115-113, and Memphis Grizzlies, 120-114.

The first attempt was a hard-fought battle against the Warriors. That was one which could have gone in either direction. Stephen Curry and Paul George exchanged three balls late with seconds remaining. The Clippers had the ball with one last opportunity, though they were at the free throw line and needed to purposely miss and then score again.

They came close with a scramble for the loose ball, but obviously failed in their comeback attempt. George scored 29 points in the losing effort, and then followed up with an even bigger performance against the Grizzlies. George’s 41 points wasn’t enough, though, as Ja Morant and De’Anthony Melton were too much in the backcourt.

That leaves the Clippers going into this one winless at 0-2 against the Trail Blazers. The Blazers have a win and loss, with a 124-121 loss versus the Sacramento Kings at home, and then an impressive turnaround with a 134-105 win at home with the Phoenix Suns in town. That was a brilliant display from the Blazers.

The Blazers were able to get well-balanced production in that one. CJ McCollum had a productive outing with 28 points, while Jusuf Nurkic led with 12 rebounds, and Damian Lillard predictably led the team in assists with 8. They are likely going to see a Clippers team motivated and focused in this one after losing their first two games.

Kawhi Leonard’s absence hurts this roster, but the Clippers can’t have any excuses. Their lineup isn’t void of talent. Somebody just has to step up and help George make some more plays. They have enough to play with to remain competitive and beat teams like the Blazers, just don’t feel too confident with a trip to the NBA Finals without Kawhi. Trail Blazers vs. Clippers Prediction:

The Trail Blazers have been playing well offensively with 127.5 points scored per game. They are also second in the NBA, only behind the Denver Nuggets, with a field goal percentage of 51.3%.

Their offensive explosion against the Suns has helped translate into 127.5 points per game. The Blazers will have to do it without Norman Powell for the foreseeable future. Powell was sharp against the Suns with 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting before having to exit.

Powell is listed as out indefinitely with patellar tendinopathy in his left knee. It could have been worse, and fortunately it doesn’t appear to be anything serious.

In any case, Powell will not be able to suit up at the Staples Center. That leaves a sharp shooter off the floor that the Clippers don’t have to worry about.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. LA Clippers Betting Trends:

Trail Blazers

  • 8-3 ATS in their previous 11 games
  • 8-2 ATS in their previous ten games with a losing record
  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six games versus the Clippers
  • 0-6 overall in their previous six games versus the Clippers

  • 8-4 ATS in their previous 12 games
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous versus the Blazers at the Staples Center
  • 6-3 ATS in their previous nine games as a favorite
  • 18-1 overall in their previous games on a Monday

The Trail Blazers are a good team, there is no denying that. They have a little bit of everything on their roster. No surprise if they win straight up at the Staples Center tonight.

That being said, losing Powell isn’t insignificant for the Blazers on the road. I think people are going to brush his injury off, but he’s more valuable for this team than people believe.

After two losses expect the Clippers to come out with a more complete and focused effort. They need to work harder defensively and we should get it for a night. The Clippers by 6 or 7 points looks about right.
