Houston Rockets (51-13) at Toronto Raptors (47-17)
The hot streak continued last night! We are now 6-1 this week on NBA picks. We took, what at the time, seemed like a bit of a no-brainer type of pick. I got to back the Miami Heat, at home, against the Philadelphia 76ers.
I am no hater of what Philly has done this season, they have a great young core of talent, and I love that they are going to make the playoffs this year. But they have not been a good road team this season, and the fact that they were road favorites against a team that had a near identical record as they did, didn’t make any sense to me.
The Heat are a solid squad that plays their best basketball in Miami. The game went about as I expected it to and the Heat led most of the way and won 108-99, with a strong fourth quarter push. I love finding spots where the hype outpaces a team’s actual results so I can get on the other side.
The Sixers are a fun team, but I am nowhere near ready to back them as road favorites against a playoff caliber team. Tonight, I look at two teams where the hype could not be more real as the Toronto Raptors host the Houston Rockets.
The Houston Rockets will take their seventeen-game winning streak into Toronto tonight to face the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors. What the Rockets are doing right now is borderline historic, as they are just mowing through the competition. They are 24-2 in their last twenty-six games.
Not to be outdone the Raptors find themselves winners of thirteen of their last fourteen games. Something is going to have to give tonight! The Rockets are -2.5-point road favorites. The game total over-under is set at 220.5 points. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM PST from the Air Canada Centre.
The Houston Rockets are the NBA’s best team. Golden State is a very close second, but you cannot deny what the Rockets have done this year when James Harden, Clint Cappella, and Chris Paul are on the court. The Rockets are 35-1 when that trio plays together. If the Rockets can keep that group healthy, I don’t see how they can lose and must be the prohibitive favorites to win the NBA title.
This current winning streak is further proof of just how good this team can play when they are all healthy. During the current seventeen game winning streak, the Rockets have wins over potential playoff teams like San Antonio, Cleveland, Miami, Denver, Minnesota, Boston, OKC, and Milwaukee.
This hasn’t been a good run beating bad teams, the Rockets are taking on all comers and dominating. They will need to play their best game tonight as they face a Raptors team that is nearly as hot as they are.
The Toronto Raptors are not a good home team. They aren’t even a great a home team this year. They are the best home team in the NBA. The Raptors are elite at home, running up an NBA best 27-5 record on their home floor. That is better than the Houston Rockets, better than the Golden State Warriors, better than the Minnesota Timberwolves. This team just does not lose in Toronto. The Raptors have a total of one home loss, going back to January 26th.
These are the best two teams in their respective conferences. This could very well end up being a preview of the NBA finals. The Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are going to have something to say about that, but if the season ended today, these would be the two best teams from each conference. Both are on fire right now, and we should be in store for a playoff type atmosphere tonight in Toronto.
This line opened up at Houston -2-points and quickly shifted to Houston -2.5-points. I can’t blame people for backing the Rockets, they just can’t seem to lose a game right now. But I have a different perspective. I get to back a team that has won thirteen out of its last fourteen games. A team that is the BEST home team in the NBA this year. At home, getting 2.5-points. That is value that I just can’t pass up on.
Look, I get it, betting against a team that has won seventeen straight games is a tough thing to do. This team looks invincible right now. But they are going to lose eventually. And I can’t think of a tougher spot for them than having to fly clear across the country all the way to Toronto and having to play a Raptors teams that just doesn’t lose at home.
If they are ever going to lose a game, it is tonight. I just can’t pass up on getting the Raptors as home dogs.
Give me the Toronto Raptors tonight getting 2.5-points at home!
