The Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards are set to tangle on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena. The Kings and Wizards are two of the worst teams you are going to find in the NBA, but their style of basketball could lead to an exciting contest. They are going to want to run up and down the floor and score as quickly as possible. Defense is going to be optional on Wednesday night in Washington. Whichever team steps up in the fourth quarter and decides to play defense is likely going to be rewarded with a victory.
We know that the Kings and Wizards can score in a hurry, but who is willing to step up and play some defense? It’s been absent for the Kings and Wizards in 2020-21. At this point, it doesn’t matter much when it comes to the playoffs. They aren’t going to the postseason. Despite some exciting talent on both sides, this season just hasn’t worked out. The Kings were angling for a breakout season, while there were some expectations for the Wizards with Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook on the same roster.
The Wizards enter Wednesday with a record of 14-24 and 12th in the East, so it’s hard to say that this has worked out well. Beal has been rumored to be on the trade block for a couple of years now, and we’ll have to see if another deadline passes with him on the roster. Along with Beal, Westbrook is likely going to garner some phone calls from other teams as well. There better be a strong defense already in place before bringing Westbrook in, though. A team can’t depend on Westbrook to come in and help with their defense. However, he can help with a spark offensively.
Sacramento heads into Washington with a record of 15-24. They’ve lost their first two games on this road trip, with a 121-106 loss against the Atlanta Hawks on March 13, and then a 122-116 loss against the Charlotte Hornets in their most recent showing on Monday. Their only win since March 11 has been against the Houston Rockets. Everyone is beating the Rockets, so I can’t say that it’s a “good” win for the Kings, but it’s a win nonetheless. It’s not as bad as the Wizards’ current four-game losing streak. Their last win was on March 4, against of all teams, the Clippers. Head below for our free Kings vs. Wizards pick on March 17, 2021.
Sacramento Kings vs. Washington Wizards NBA Betting Odds:
Kings vs. Wizards Prediction:
Any team that has come across the Kings and Wizards has found that scoring on these defenses is one of the easiest nights they’re going to have. They don’t play much defense. The Kings are 29th in the NBA with 120 points against per game, while the Wizards are giving up a hair more with 120.1 points allowed per game.
So, they’re essentially the same horrible defenses. There is a reason that the total is set at 245.5 in this game. Once upon a time that was closer to the total that you’d find in an All-Star Game and not a regular season matchup. I would be on the OVER if it wasn’t so high. There isn’t much value with it at 245.5 points.
The offensive efficiency for both sides is fairly equal as well. The Kings have netted an average of 114.8 points per game for ninth in the league, while the Wizards are tenth with 114.6 points per game. In other words, there isn’t a whole lot separating the Kings and Wizards offensively or defensively. Who wants this game more? The fact the Kings are on a road trip, and the Wizards are at home should help differentiate these two.
Note that the Kings have not liked travelling to Capital One Arena. They have not had much success here at all. In their previous seven appearances, they’ve gone 1-6 ATS in Washington. In more recent action, the Kings have been a money burner if you’ve been tailing them. They have gone 1-8 ATS in their last nine games as an underdog.
In their previous 16 outings overall, the Kings have gone 3-13 ATS. The Kings can score, as we’ve already gone over, but they will have to keep up with a Wizards team that has exploded at home this season. Washington has netted an average of 118.2 points per game at Capital One Arena. Conversely, the Kings are scoring at a clip of 113.3 points contest.
After four straight losses, I think motivation to play better tonight has to be on the Wizards’ side at home. They’ve played some good teams recently, including the Bucks twice and the 76ers, but should find this test against the Kings much easier. Expect the Wizards to snap this four-game losing streak and beat the visiting Kings by a score of 126-119 or thereabout.
