San Antonio Spurs vs. Denver Nuggets Pick – NBA April 5, 2022

The San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets clash at Ball Arena in Colorado on Tuesday night. San Antonio is expected to be without its catalyst in Dejounte Murray.

He’s reportedly suffering a mysterious illness and will be unavailable tonight.

There has been no confirmation that it is Covid related. What we do know is that Murray is listed as OUT for this trip to Denver. That’s tough for a Spurs team on the bubble for the play-in tournament.

The Spurs are currently 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 33-45 and 10th. The Lakers are eliminated from the play-in tournament with a loss against the Phoenix Suns and a Spurs win.

What a sad season it has been for the Lakers and it could finally come to an end tonight. The Spurs will have to do it against the Nuggets down Murray.

With a two-game advantage over the Lakers, they are still very much in the driver’s seat with a loss in Denver.

The Spurs are coming off back-to-back wins over the hopeless Portland Trail Blazers, 130-111 and 113-92. They have been in good form with six wins in seven attempts.

Denver has been feeling it recently as well. They’ve won four of their last five games after a 129-118 win over the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena.

Another disappointing loss for the Lakers, what else is new this season? The Nuggets are currently 47-32 and fifth in the Western Conference.

Spurs vs. Nuggets Prediction:

The Spurs are playing solid basketball recently, but a big part of this team is Dejounte Murray. They didn’t need him to beat the Trail Blazers, which everybody saw coming. The Trail Blazers have given up on the season.

However, doing it against the Nuggets should be tough on the road. Without Murray, the Spurs lose a 21.2 points a game scorer. Murray is much more than just a scorer for the Spurs, though. He is a facilitator and makes others around him better.

Murray has been impressive sharing the ball and creating plays. He averages 9.3 assists per game, along with fighting for loose balls with 8.4 rebounds per game. His absence is going to hurt in Denver. The Spurs are a different squad without him.

When Murray is not playing, the Spurs have won just three times in 11 games. Two of those wins were against the useless Trail Blazers, so take that how you will. Portland isn’t scaring college teams off in their current form.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Denver Nuggets Betting Trends:

Spurs
  • 6-1 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games after a win
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six games on a Tuesday
  • 6-13 ATS in their previous 19 games versus a team with a winning record
  • UNDER is 6-2 in their previous eight games
Nuggets
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games
  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven games versus the Spurs at home
  • 5-10 ATS in their previous 15 games
  • OVER is 8-2 in their previous ten games
  • OVER is 6-2 in their previous eight games versus the Spurs

The Nuggets are the second-best team in the NBA with a field goal percentage of 48.3%. They are in the top-10 with 112.4 points per game, which improves to 114.4 points per game at home.

Across their last five tilts, the Nuggets have poured in 122 points per game with a 53.5% field goal percentage. The Spurs’ defense has shown better recently, but can be inconsistent.

San Antonio is 23rd in the league with a 47% field goal percentage allowed. Most of all, though, it should show how important Murray is to this team. The Grizzlies can run without Ja Morant, but I’m not convinced the same with the Spurs when they don’t have Murray.

The points look attractive at first-look, but then you realize how important Murray is to this team. Look for this one to play close through the first half, with the Nuggets pulling ahead and away for a cover at home.
