San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Pick – February 12th

The NBA is set up with a busy Friday night of basketball. Eight games are on the board The NBA is set up for a total of five basketball games on Tuesday night. One of the games set for February 12th is between the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies. Both teams have struggled recently, and both look to get a much-needed victory with a win against their Western Conference competitor. The game is set to begin at 8:00 PM Eastern time.

San Antonio has started this season with a record of 32-26, which has them in seventh place of the Western Conference. The Spurs have lost four games in a row, which has dropped them a bit in the standings. San Antonio is in an extremely competitive Western Conference, which means they need to pick up their play if they want to avoid falling out of the playoff picture.

The Grizzlies had a strong start to the season but had a large portion in the later part of the season where they started to struggle. Memphis has gone 23-34 this season, which has them in fourteenth place of the Western Conference. The Grizzlies have been doing well in their last few games, winning three of their last four. Memphis will look to keep it going with a win at home.

Tuesday night’s matchup between the Spurs and the Grizzlies will be the fourth and final game of the season series. San Antonio and Memphis could both really use a win on Tuesday night. The Spurs are still in the thick of the playoff race, but are only two games ahead of the Sacramento Kings in that ninth seed in the Western Conference.

Previous Matchups

San Antonio hosted the first game of the season series on November 21st. DeMar DeRozan had a strong night as he dropped 24 points. Rudy Gay had a strong showing as well, dropping 21 points, but it was not enough. Mike Conley had 30 points, while Marc Gasol put up 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Grizzlies were able to pull off a big 104-103 upset on the road.

The second game of the season series stayed in San Antonio on January 5th. Mike Conley had another strong night as he put up 21 points. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks each had 15 points, but the Grizzlies did not get much production after that. Derrick White had 19 points for the Spurs. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 18 points, while Patty Mills had 15 off the bench. The Spurs were able to give their home fans a 108-88 win this time around.

The Grizzlies hosted the third game of the season series on January 9th. Bryn Forbes and Marco Belinelli each scored 14 points for the Spurs. LaMarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills both scored 13 points, but it was not enough for the Spurs. Marc Gasol scored 26 points and 14 rebounds for Memphis. Mike Conley added another 15 points to help give the Grizzlies a 96-86 win at home.

Memphis has a surprising 2-1 lead in the season series this season. The Spurs have been the better team by quite a bit this season, and I believe they will look to prove that on Tuesday night. I do not believe that San Antonio will fall 3-1 in the season series against the Grizzlies this season. The Spurs know that they need to get wins like this and I believe they will come out hot against Memphis.

Three Point Shooting

San Antonio has been a knockdown team from behind the three-point line this season. The Spurs have always been known for their ball movement, which gives them open shots from deep. San Antonio has made around 40.6 percent of their three-point shots, which is the best in the NBA. The Spurs defense has not been great against the three-point shots this season, allowing opposing teams to make around 36.1 percent of their threes.

The Grizzlies have not been doing great on either offense or defense from behind the arc this season. Memphis is making around 33.8 percent of their three-point shots this season. The Grizzlies defense has allowed their opponents to make 35.9 percent of their three-point shots. Both of these numbers are near the bottom of the league.

The Spurs may not have the best three-point defense, but they will look for their three-point shooting to give them the edge on Tuesday night. Memphis is not doing great at defending the three-point line, which gives San Antonio’s ball movement to take this game over. I believe that this could be a big part of Tuesday night’s game for the Spurs.

Top Performers

DeMar DeRozan has been playing really well in his first season with San Antonio. DeRozan is averaging 21.5 points, six rebounds and six assists per game this season. LaMarcus Aldridge has averaged 21 points and nine rebounds per game this season. Rudy Gay is dropping 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, but could miss Tuesday’s matchup. Bryn Forbes has averaged 12 points per game, while Marco Belinelli is averaging 11 points per game off the bench.

Mike Conley has been the clear leader for this Grizzlies team. Conley has been averaging 20 points and 6.5 assists per game this season. Jaren Jackson Jr. is averaging 14 points per game in his rookie campaign. C.J. Miles had a strong first game with Memphis, dropping 13 points, but is averaging 5.5 points per game on the season. The Grizzlies lost their star Center in Marc Gasol in a trade with the Raptors.

The Spurs have a lot of mismatches in the paint with Marc Gasol. Both Gay and Aldridge could go off for big nights in the paint. Conley has a good chance to put up big numbers against Forbes. I believe that DeRozan could take over this game with how he matches against the Grizzlies struggling depth.

Pick Overview

The Grizzlies have won three of their last four games, while San Antonio has lost four games in a row. The Spurs have lost a lot of tough matchups, but I believe that they will bounce back with a win on the road against Memphis. San Antonio has been a much better three-point shooting team this season, which I believe could help give them the edge.

BetOnline has the Spurs listed as a -3 ½ against the spread. San Antonio is on the road, but without Gasol to guard the paint for the Grizzlies, I believe that the Spurs will be able to control this game. Three and a half points is not a lot of points to cover, especially if San Antonio is leading in a close game. They could use free throws to cover. I am taking the Spurs on the road.
