The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies meet at the FedEx Forum on New Year’s Eve for one final matchup of 2021. Both teams have been playing quality basketball as of late, with the Spurs winning in three of their last four games. The Grizzlies enter on a three-game winning streak going into tonight.
The Spurs were on a three-game winning streak before the Utah Jazz cut them down by 110-104 on Monday. However, the Spurs were playing from behind all game. They did enough for a backdoor cover, tipping in a ball with less than a second left on the clock for a meaningless bucket.
last dance of 2021.

Utah geared down with a 14-point lead late in the game and allowed the Spurs to backdoor the game. Despite the loss, the Spurs have been playing better team basketball recently, which is exactly what Gregg Popovich wants to see from this young group. The Spurs will be without Dejounte Murray for another game.
Murray is in Covid protocol and did not travel to Memphis. He and the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant are in a heated battle for a spot in the All-Star Game. For Murray to get into the All-Star Game, he likely has to go through Morant. It was just a few days ago that Memphis fans were booing Morant.
He was out of the lineup and recently made his return. Morant was rusty and he wasn’t coming up short. Yeah, they might have had problems for a couple of games, but the Grizzlies need Morant. He came through with 33 points on 14-25 shooting in a 114-113 win over the Suns, and then followed up to stop the Lakers with 41 points on 13-27 shooting.
One way to shut up fans, even your own hometown, is to play like that and get them back on your side quickly. The Grizzlies are up to 22-14 on the season and will need Morant to continue playing with a hot hand. Head below for our free Spurs vs. Grizzlies pick on December 31, 2021.

Spurs vs. Grizzlies Prediction:
This looks like another matchup where Ja Morant is likely going to continue rolling. He has a favorable matchup against the Spurs’ defense in this one. The Spurs are 22nd in the NBA with 109.8 points per game.
The Grizzlies have had success scoring against the Spurs in their last several matchups. They’ve scored at least 119 points in three of their last four versus the Spurs, with 120.25 points scored per game.
Morant has been playing on a mission since fans in Memphis were booing him after coming back to the lineup. Expect him to slice through the Spurs’ defense for a big performance on the final day of 2021.
Overall, the Grizzlies are sixth with 110.9 points a game. At home, Memphis has put in an average of 113.6 points per game. At home on New Year’s Day, expect the Grizzlies to go far offensively tonight.
San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies Betting Trends:
- 4-0 ATS in their previous four games
- 6-0 ATS in their previous six games as an underdog on the road
- 6-1 ATS in their previous seven games on the road
- OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games on one-day rest
- OVER is 8-0 in their previous eight games versus a team with a winning record
- 0-5 ATS in their previous five games as a betting favorite at Memphis
- 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games as a betting favorite
- OVER is 5-1 in their previous six games versus a team with a losing record
- OVER is 5-1 in their previous six games versus versus the Spurs
- OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games at Memphis
The Spurs can score as well and should be adequate enough versus the Grizzlies’ defense. They didn’t make out the best without Dejounte Murray versus the Jazz, but Memphis isn’t as strong as Utah defensively.
Memphis is 18th in the NBA with 108.3 points against per game. Their biggest problem is defending on the perimeter. Teams are shooting 37.3% for three against the Grizzlies. That’s 29th in three-point percentage defense.
The Spurs are in the top-5 with 111.5 points a game and a 47.% field goal percentage. They are also in the top-10 with a 36% three-point success rate.
The OVER is probably the best option in Memphis. I’m looking at a 123-113 or 118-113 final score at FedEx Forum.
