As hard as it is to believe, tonight’s Golden State game is no longer about chasing MJ’s Bulls and immortality. It is about survival.
A loss tonight would put them in the real position of potentially ceding the top seed in the West to the rival Spurs. With three games to play, the Spurs would need only to beat Golden State at home – a place where they haven’t lost to the Warriors in decades or to ANYONE this season, and hope the Warriors drop one of their two remaining matchups to the depleted Grizzlies.
Is it possible? It seems unlikely, but then again, five days ago the Warriors were unbeaten at home and toting an 80 percent-plus chance of topping the Bulls iconic mark. Now, they have lost two of their last three home games and have seen those once encouraging odds drop all the way down to just 11%.
The game IS in the Bay tonight, and any of the boredom Draymond Green claimed might have beset the team should be full evaporated with the Spurs in town tonight and the stakes finally amplified. So who comes out on top? I lean Spurs getting a nice seven points, but can’t make it the official pick because I JUST DON’T TRUST them to really try to win tonight.

Today’s Free Pick:
Phoenix Suns at Houston Rockets -13
Picking the Suns on the road is almost like picking the Washington Generals. But hear me out… Last night was a BRUTAL loss for the Rockets. Their playoff chances took a massive hit with a late loss to Dallas which not only gave the Mavericks a two game lead, also have them the head-to-head tiebreaker. Had Dirk Nowitski (??) not stripped Harden on the final drive to the hoops, the Rockets would have pulled even in the standing and owned the tiebreaker. It was essentially a three-game swing in the standings and probably the death nail in the Rockets playoff coffin.
And now they have to gear back up and come out and play well tonight? I don’t see it. Look for a big hangover effect tonight.
Phoenix enters with a dreadful 7-32 road mark and a terrible 13-26 road ATS record. Neither bode well for backing them tonight. But thirteen points is a ton facing a demoralized team on the back end of a back to back. They are actually 4-2 ATS in their last six games and competed closely with Houston in three of their last four matchups. Houston is just 3-6 straight up in their last nine and is just 3-7 ATS in their last ten home games.
This one is about two things to me: effort and massive spread. I think both favor the young visiting Suns tonight.
