We got back on track last night as the Minnesota Timberwolves had their way with the Lakers in Minneapolis, scoring a ton of points in the process. The Timberwolves offense continues to be one of the best and most efficient in the NBA, somewhat surprising given their youth and the pro-defense influence of new coach Tom Thibedeaux. If they can get it figured out on the defensive side of the ball as well, watch out, this team could be very dangerous. And if not in 2017, then 2018 for sure. They have a lot of the look of the Oklahoma City Thunder team that challenged Kobe’s Lakers as a #8 seed before launching a nice six year run the following season.
The win gets us back to 65% ATS on the season and looking to do some damage here in the new week.
Oh, and just a note on the “woe is me, Warriors.” They are now 8-2 straight up. If they continue at this pace, they will win 66 games this season, good for one of the top 15 regular seasons in NBA history. So… perhaps we should all relax just a little bit…

Today’s Free Pick:
Oklahoma City Thunder at Detroit Pistons -3
This line opened at -1 in the overnight and quickly rocketed to -3 where it currently holds. Even at -5 or -6, I’m on Detroit. OKC has overachieved mightily in the early season, relying on Russell Westbrook’s astounding workrate (nearly 15% than anyone else in the NBA) and escaping with a lot of narrow wins. They failed to escape last night at home against Orlando, and now, less than 24 hours later they have to head to a solid Detroit team.
Detroit is perfect at home this season and Westbrook has his lowest scoring average and shooting percentage over his career against the Pistons. He came into the league after the “black and blue” Pistons, so that has been done largely against a team similarly to this one. Only this year’s squad is improved offensively as well. They are getting diverse scoring from Porter, Morris and Andre Drummond and have found some nice bench contributions from Jon Leuer. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope is an excellent defender who might be able to offer a little hop on Westbrook, and best of all, AGAIN, the Thunder played last night in a tough game that went down to the final possession.
It all adds up to Detroit remaining perfect at home and I expect them to cover in the process.
