We ended the week in nice fashion with one of the easier winners of the season – and backing the LAKERS no less! I knew Phoenix was a flaming bus careening over a mountaintop, but last night’s first half performance was one for the ages. Remember I said I was betting the game but definitely not watching it? I wish I would have heeded my own advice, but like a passenger slowing by the gruesome wreck on the side of the highway, it was hard not to look. Phoenix came out and scored 10 points in the first quarter. They ramped it up for 12 points in the second. That’s a 22 point half in an NBA game, folks! Your ‘new-look’ Suns! Wow…
Regardless of how brutal the hoops, a winner is a winner, so I’ll take it with a smile. Let’s see if we can keep it rolling tonight. The Warriors will also be trying to keep the good time rolling, but will have a challenge of their own – winning without (likely) Steph Curry on the court. Their biggest obstacle to history might very well be health. It will be interesting to see how the survive a relatively light four game stretch opponent-wise this week with Curry (and Barnes, Barbosa, and Ezili) nursing back to health.

Today’s Free Pick:
Minnesota Timberwolves -6 at Philadelphia 76’ers
This may not be the most glamorous matchup of NBA powerhouses, but it will be kind of cool to see the top two bigs from the 2015 Draft, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor, go head to head in the paint. Both have good numbers and look like legitimate long time pros. The problem for Philly will be that they don’t have a Andrew Wiggins to pair alongside Okafor, despite about a dozen Lottery selections.
However, Philly did address a shortcoming at point (no offense to the solid play of TJ McConnell) by bringing in Ish Smith. It might not sound like a huge add, but the Sixers are 2-4 since adding him, and have looked relatively competent of late. Add in the fact that they are getting a subpar opponent on their home court, and if there was ever a night to make a few bucks on the Sixers, it is tonight.
We won with the Lakers last night, and I’m not just trying to be cheeky by going back to the muck-well again tonight. Philly has a legit chance to win this game, and they are getting a half-dozen points at home, where they haven’t played in seven games. Home sweet home might be the boost this young but improving team needs to finally get over the hump.
The Sixers have covered in four of their last five head-to-head meetings with the Timberpups and I think they notch another ATS winner tonight. It feels weird to type, but I’ll take the Sixers tonight.
