Utah Jazz vs Memphis Grizzlies NBA Pick – November 12th

The NBA has a busy Monday night as nine games are on the schedule to finish off Veteran’s Day Weekend. One of those games is between the Utah Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies. Both teams have had solid starts to the season. I expect a good game between these teams on Monday night.

The Utah Jazz has gone 6-6 to open up the new season. Utah is currently sitting in ninth place of the Western Conference. Utah has won their last two games, but had a four-game losing streak going on before that. The Jazz can get back to above an even record with a win against the Grizzlies on Monday night.

Memphis has surprised a lot of people with their play to open up the new season. The Grizzlies have gone 7-4 this season, which currently has them in fourth place of the Western Conference. Memphis is also on a two-game winning streak right now. The Grizzlies are 5-0 at home so far this season.

This game will be the third time the Grizzlies and the Jazz meet this season. Utah and Memphis will meet one more time on March 8. Since this is the third time they have met early in the season, both teams already have a good idea of how each team will lineup with each other.

Recent Matchups

The first game between the Grizzlies and Jazz this season was on October 22. Utah hosted the matchup, but was not able to get the win at home. Jae Crowder led the Jazz in points with 15 points off the bench. Mike Conley scored 23 points for Memphis. Marc Gasol scored 18 points and added 13 rebounds. The Grizzlies were able to pull off the 92-84 upset on the road.

The second game of the season was also in Utah on November 2. Ricky Rubio scored 22 points and added another 11 assists for the Jazz. Joe Ingles scored 19 points for Utah, but it was not enough. Mike Conley had 28 points, while Shelvin Mack had another 19 points. The Grizzlies were able to get another road upset with a 110-100 win.

The Grizzlies were able to win both games on the road. With the season series shifting back home, Memphis should be confident to pull off another win against Utah. I expect the Jazz to look and try to pull the season series to within one with one game left. The Grizzlies have looked solid to begin the season and I believe they can continue with another win against the Jazz on Monday night.

The only injury listed for Utah is Raul Neto. Neto has been nearing a return, but he will still be out for a little longer. He has yet to make his season debut, but when he does it should help strengthen the depth for the Jazz.

Memphis has been hit with a few more injuries to begin the season. The Grizzlies are without JaMychal Green on Monday night. Memphis could also be missing Omri Casspi and Chandler Parsons, who are both sitting out with knee injuries. Like the Jazz, Memphis’ depth can get stronger as they get healthy.

Neither team should have any serious issues because of injuries. The depth on each team could get stronger as players get healthy, but none of the injured players have huge roles. Both of these teams have still found success this season even with the injuries.

Top Performers

Donovan Mitchell has continued his strong play from last season into this season. Mitchell has averaged 22.3 points per game and 4.5 assists this season. Rudy Gobert has also been playing really strong to start out the new season. Gobert had 16.4 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Jae Crowder has averaged 14.7 points per game off the bench this season.

The Grizzlies best player this season has been Mike Conley. Conley has averaged 18.1 points and 6 assists per game this season. Marc Gasol has been really solid at the Center spot. Gasol is averaging 14.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. The duo of Conley and Gasol have been really strong and will need to continue against the Jazz on Monday night.

I believe that there are some really good matchups to watch on Monday night. Gasol versus Gobert has been exciting to watch so far this season. Gasol has gotten the better of Gobert so far this season. I believe that Conley could continue to dominate Ricky Rubio on offense. Donovan Mitchell has also been shut down by Memphis this season.

Pick Overview

The Grizzlies are taking a 2-0 series lead back home, which should be a good confidence better. Memphis needs to avoid getting arrogant, so they do not take this game like it is an easy win. I believe the Grizzlies are on a mission to prove that last season’s struggles were because of their injury problems and not because of a failing roster. They can continue their strong start with a tough win against the Jazz.

BetOnline has Utah listed as a 2.5 point favorite. I do not believe the Jazz should be favored in this game. Memphis has gone up 2-0 in the season series and have the better record overall this season. The Grizzlies are also at home, which gives them an edge up on the Jazz. I like how Memphis matches up with the Jazz’s roster. I am taking the home underdog.
