Wednesday night is set up for a solid night of action in the NBA. Eight games are set up on the board for January 30 in the NBA. One of the games will be between the Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers. Both teams are sitting in playoff positions to this point in the season. The game is set to start at 10:30 PM Eastern time on ESPN.
Utah has started this season with a record of 29-22, which has them in sixth place of the Western Conference. The Jazz had a much slower start to the season, but have picked up their pace a lot recently. Utah has won three games in a row and nine of their last ten games. The Jazz will look to keep it going with a win on Wednesday night.
The Trail Blazers have earned the fourth-place spot in the Western Conference with a record of 31-20. Portland has won back to back games and nine of their last twelve games. The Trail Blazers are playing really well as of late and they will look to chip away at the third spot in the Western Conference with a win at home against Utah.
Wednesday night’s matchup between the Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers will be the fourth and final game of the season series. Both teams are coming into Wednesday night’s game on a roll and I believe it will help lead to a good game between the two teams. I expect a solid game between this potential playoff matchup.
The first matchup of this season’s series was hosted by the Trail Blazers on December 21. Damian Lillard scored 19 points, while Evan Turner and C.J. McCollum each scored 12 points. Ricky Rubio had a big night as he scored 24 points. Kyle Korver and Jae Crowder each had solid nights off the bench. Korver scored 18 points, while Crowder finished with 16. The Jazz were able to pull off a dominant 120-90 win.
The second game of the season series shifted to Utah on December 25. Damian Lillard had another solid night scoring 20 points. Evan Turner added another 12 points off the bench, but it was not enough. Donovan Mitchell dropped 19 points, while Rudy Gobert had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Utah’s starting lineup combined for 73 points. The Jazz were able to pull off a 117-96 win at home.
The Jazz hosted the third and most recent game of the season series on January 21. Donovan Mitchell had a huge night as he dropped 36 points, but he did not get much support from the rest of the team like previous games. Damian Lillard scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the Trail Blazers. Lillard, C.J. McCollum, and Jusuf Nurkic combined for 62 points as Portland was able to pull off the 109-104 road win.
Utah is up 2-1 in the season series. The Jazz took the first game on the road in the season series by a dominant 30 points. Portland has been picking up their play as of late though and I believe it will help them play much better at home this time. I believe the Trail Blazers have a good chance to tie up the season series with a home win on Wednesday night.
Three Point Shooting
The Jazz have not been doing great at shooting the three ball this season. Utah has made around 34.5 percent of their three-point shots this season. The Jazz have not been any better at defending the three-point ball. Utah has allowed their opponents to make around 36.1 percent of their three-point shots. The Jazz are in the bottom half of the league at both shooting and defending the three ball this season.
Portland has been doing really well at shooting the three ball this season. The Trail Blazers have made around 35.9 percent of their shots from behind the arc this season. Portland’s three-point defense has not been doing great, allowing opposing teams to shoot 36.6 percent from deep. The Trail Blazers should be able to shoot well against the Jazz from behind the arc and possibly stop Utah’s poor three point shooting team.
Donovan Mitchell has been the top scorer for the Jazz this season. Mitchell is averaging 22.5 points per game this season. Rudy Gobert has averaged 15 points and 13 rebounds per game. Ricky Rubio is averaging 13 points and 6 assists per game. Jae Crowder has averaged 12 points per game off the bench this season. Joe Ingles, Derrick Favors, and Kyle Korver are all averaging over 10 points per game as well.
The Trail Blazers see more of their scoring come from their top players rather than depth players. Damian Lillard has averaged around 26 points and 6 assists per game this season. C.J. McCollum is averaging 21 points per game. Jusuf Nurkic has played a solid role at the Center spot. He has averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Al-Farouq Aminu is averaging 9.5 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Utah will look for their depth to help give them an edge against Portland’s lineup. The Trail Blazers will look for their mismatch at both Guard spots to help give them the win. Lillard and McCollum could both go off for big nights on Sunday night. They will go up against Mitchell and Rubio, which could be a good matchup to watch.
The Jazz have gone 2-1 in the season series, but with game four going back to Portland, I believe that the Trail Blazers have a good chance to even up the season series. Portland is a much better three-point shooting team and they have some really good matchups. If the Trail Blazers can neutralize the depth on Utah’s lineup, I believe they will be able to get a win.
BetOnline has Portland listed as a -1 against the spread. The Trail Blazers are at home and I believe it will help them pull off the victory. Portland and Utah are both playing really well as of late. I believe that this game will be close, but I like the Trail Blazers to take the game at home.
