Warriors vs. Bulls Pick NBA – Dec 6th

Golden State? Cleveland? Memphis? Maybe it’s Portland or Dallas?

Or maybe it’s the same as it’s always been, the same as it always is – the question being “Who’s the best team in the NBA?” The “it” of course, being the San Antonio Spurs. The defending champs went into The Grindhouse last night and handed the Grizzlies their first home loss since April of last season in an impressive reminder that the road to the Larry O’Brien Trophy will at some point have to go through the Alamo. In the process of the win, Tim Duncan became the second-oldest player in the history of the NBA to record a triple-double (Karl Malone – if you want to win a random bar bet).

Not that he or the Spurs will make too much of a fuss or the accomplishment. Their postgame pressers usually have a Bellicheckian “on to Minnesota” quality to them, though Pop did uncharacteristically glow about his veteran future-HOF’er calling him “tremendous” and “really hardcore.”

Agreed Coach, agreed. But I wouldn’t wager tonight’s Minny game though because it feels like Timmy and a few friends might have earned the night off…

Today’s Free Pick:

Golden State Warriors -2.5 at Chicago Bulls (Total: 203)

In my praise of the Spurs to begin the column, in no way am I omitting Golden State from consideration. In fact, to this point at 16-2 they have easily been the best team in the NBA. They are splendid on both ends of the floor, especially the end people assume they are NOT good at, defense. They still lead the league in defensive efficiency, despite playing a pace that allows them to score 106.8 points per game.

Meanwhile, the Bulls have shown flashes of being a Finals contender though most of the attention has continued to be the daily “will he, won’t he” status of former-MVP Derek Rose (tonight, he will, as will likely Joakim Noah). They are an impressive 10-3 on the road this season. Yet they are also a perplexing 2-4 at the United Center. Tonight will be a tough task hosting on of the most efficient teams in the NBA. It feels a little counter to long-earned reputations, but it could very well be the Bulls who struggle facing the better defense.

Right now, Steph Curry would be my vote for MVP. Anthony Davis is breathtaking, but his team has a losing record. LeBron hasn’t quite been flexing his normal MVP-ness, and Marc Gasol? Come on man, nice story but…

Look for Steph to be the leader and the assassin tonight and lead the Warriors to yet another road win. They are 9-1 on the road this season and are a fantastic 12-6 ATS overall. The lines are starting to catch up as they would have likely gotten three points in Chicago a month ago instead of laying a few, but I am sticking with the Warriors nonetheless. Until they give me a reason to do otherwise, I’m going to keep riding with the Splash Brothers.

Free Pick: Golden State Warriors -2.5
