The opening weekend of the NBA Playoffs featured a record-setting five road wins and has a few teams with lofty expectations in early precarious situations. The Washington Wizards made their return to the NBA Playoffs in grand fashion, winning the first game of the series in Chicago and looking like the superior team in the process. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks with 38 wins, went into Indiana and dominated the top-seeded Pacers. Anyone up for a Washington Wizards vs. Atlanta Hawks Conference Semi-Final?? Wow…
Meanwhile, the West is delivering as expected. Golden State and Portland notched surprising wins over the Clippers and Houston, both wins came in tense, dramatic games. I’d be surprised if one or both of those series didn’t go the distance.
Two series resume tonight, with the Grizzlies and Clippers needing wins to even the series. So will either be able to do it? Let’s dig into tonight free picks.
Tonight’s Free Pick:
Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Clippers -8 (Total: 212)
The Warriors looked like the team many thought could contend for a title before the season started in Game One of this series. So is it a sign of things to come, or simply a nice opening salvo? The Warriors are still without Andrew Bogut for at least the rest of this series so it stands to reason their front line will struggle with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Of course, those two will have to actually be on the court. Blake Griffin played just 19 minutes due to foul trouble. It’s hard to imagine the whistles will be anywhere near as tight the rest of the series.
Golden State got a game one win, and somewhat surpringly; they did so with just 14 points from Steph Curry. One would assume that will be the low-water mark for the series, so the Warriors have some fire power in reserve as well.
I like offenses to rule the day in Game Two. These teams have gone OVER in eight of their last ten matchups, and in one of the UNDER’s they missed by just a single point. Expect big games from Steph and Blake Griffin tonight – don’t be surprised if either go for thirty tonight. I like the Clippers to win tonight at home to even up the series, but I’m not sure I’m comfortable laying eight full points tonight. My safer wager is the OVER 212 tonight. Expect a looser, more free-flowing offensive game tonight and a lot of points on the board.
