We split our picks yesterday, but all NBA fans were winners as two more Game Sevens were added to the weekend lineup, making for five do-or-die win or go home games in the span on 28 hours.
There’s so much exciting hoops today, let’s skip the recap and dig right in!
Oh – and Damien Lillard put one in the all-time vault last night. Simply awesome. Not many people in the last twenty five years have hit series-clinching walkoff buzzer beaters who aren’t named Michael Jordan. Maybe Adidas spent their money wisely after all…
Today’s Free Picks:
Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder -9.5 (Total: 184.5)
The conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one, but there really wasn’t any avoiding suspending Zach Randolph for this pivotal Game Seven. Nonetheless, his absence swings the line tremendously, and it has widened all the way to a nine point Thunder edge at the time of writing.
Maybe I’m getting a little overly counter-intuitive with this pick, but I don’t think the absence of Randolph for one game turns this game into a blowout. I like Oklahoma City to still win, but the perimeter defense which has flummoxed Westbrook and Durant most of the series is still in the lineup, and despite the tough loss of Z-Bo, I think the Grizz will still compete hard.
Oklahoma City should win this game. But I’m not willing to make them do it by double-digits to cash a winner. This series has been too close, too tense and too competitive to lay that many points, even with Randolph in uniform today.
Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Clippers -7.5 (Total: 206.5)
This series has been so fun to watch, much like OKC and Memphis, it is a shame it has to end today. Much like my first pick, I think the home team will prevail as they usually do in Game Sevens, but again, the spread feels a little steep.
Yes, the Clippers laid the wood to the Warriors in Game Two in a 40+ point win, but aside from that, this series has been very competitive and evenly matched. Each team has won once on the road. Each team has won one game by low double digits and another by a single basket. The series is pretty even to this point aside from one aberration.
There have also been a bunch of points scored. If forced to lean, I’d go Golden State with the points. But my favorite play on this game is the OVER 206.5. I like both teams to come out firing and to push tempo in an exciting series finale.
