All good things must come to an end. The Miami Heat ATM spit out dust last night as the Portland Trailblazers went into Miami on short rest and dealt the Heat a rare home loss. The Blazers won their seventh game in eight tries to keep the pressure on the Nuggets for the final playoff spot in the West, while the Heat took a tough loss, needing every home win against sub-.500 competition they can get as they try to keep their tentative playoff positioning.
The Celtics also lost a tough game at Philly to give one back they could ill-afford to the Cavaliers who once against lead the East by three games in the loss column. The Pacers, Bucks, Pistons, Heat and Bulls are all separated by two and half games for the sixth through tenth positions in the East, so the last three weeks are going to be very interesting…
Yesterday snapped a nice 6-1-1 ATS run, but we are looking to get back after it today.
Today’s NBA Pick:
Golden State Warriors -1.5 at Oklahoma City Thunder
SO much for the Kevin Durant love-fest part two, eh? I guess no one will be dressed as a cupcake in the stands this time (well, maybe, who knows…) since Kevin Durant will not be taking the floor for tonight’s festivities. Not only does that diminish the intrigue, it also diminishes the Warriors chances of winning.
It is always a daunting proposition to bet AGAINST Golden State. Even though they are just 14-21 ATS on the road this season and 31-36-1 ATS overall, there is still the fear of the Golden State explosion at any time with no notice. But I am pushing that fear aside and playing the numbers. Golden State is one of the worst teams on the road ATS this season and OKC is a nice, tidy 24-10-1 ATS at home – the BEST MARK in the entire NBA.
Motivation is obviously on the side of Russ and the Thunder, home court is on the side of the Thunder, the ATS trends are overwhelmingly on the side of the Thunder and health is on the side of the Thunder. That tells me, WE should also be on the side of the Thunder, fear of the Warriors Lineup of Death be darned. They are still good without KD, but not nearly AS good so far. Picking them on the road against the best ATS team in the NBA would be a bold play.
I’ll keep it safe and by the numbers tonight and back the Thunder.
Today’s Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder +1.5
