Washington Wizards vs. Houston Rockets Pick – NBA March 21, 2022

On Monday night, the Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets are in action at the Toyota Center. Houston is on a back-to-back following a disheartening effort versus the Memphis Grizzlies last night.

As good as the Grizzlies are, I’m high on them in the playoffs, but the Rockets have to be better than that. Attempting to give the Grizzlies a good game would have been a more encouraging experience for the locker room.

The Rockets are on a five-game skid going into Monday night. Prior to the loss to the Grizzlies, Houston suffered a 121-118 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

That acceptable effort was sandwiched between a 129-112 loss to the Suns and the Grizzlies performance. It was a tough stretch for the Rockets with the Suns and Grizzlies in a three-game stretch.

They should be able to catch a breather against the Bradley Beal-less Wizards, but if they get complacent, expect another loss. Their best effort should give the Wizards a good game tonight.

Houston enters at 17-54 while the Wizards are ten games under with a record of 30-40. This isn’t exactly a star-studded matchup in the works, but hopefully a profitable one nonetheless.

On Saturday, the Wizards were able to end a six-game losing streak with a 127-119 come from behind win over the LA Lakers. The inconsistent and unreliable Lakers were on a back-to-back after a win in Toronto.

Wizards vs. Rockets Prediction:

The Wizards need a healthy Bradley Beal on the floor if they’re going to have any chance at going to the play-in tournament, but defeating an opponent like the Rockets is expected regardless.

The absence of Beal is noticeable for the Wizards, though. The offense can be stagnant at times, and it doesn’t click in the same fashion.

Overall, the Wizards are 21st with 108.5 points per game. However, they have been shooting well from the field, with a 46.9% field goal percentage, the sixth-best mark in the NBA.

I’m not too worried about the Wizards’ offense against the Rockets. They should score in this one with ease. The Rockets have been a doormat for any team that needs points.

With the regular season winding down and the Rockets in clear tank mode, it has gotten ugly for Houston. They have allowed at least 121 points in their previous four games for an average of 125.5 points against per game.

Poor work from the Rockets, who need to put up a better fight tonight. However, that’s been the Rockets this season.

Overall, Houston is 30th with 118.5 points against per game and a 48.4% field goal percentage. It’s only worse as the season has progressed in Houston.

Washington Wizards vs. Houston Rockets Betting Trends:

  • 7-3-1 ATS in their previous 11 games after scoring more than 125 points
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games on the road
  • 5-16 ATS in their previous 21 games after a win
  • 17-35 ATS in their previous 52 games
  • OVER is 9-1 in their previous ten games
  • 1-7 ATS in their previous eight games on a back-to-back
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games
  • 12-31 ATS in their previous 43 games as an underdog
  • 4-9 ATS in their previous 13 games after a double-digit loss at home
  • 3-17 overall in their previous 20 games at home

The offense hasn’t been anything to get excited about in Houston, either. With a defense as bad as the Rockets, they need to shoot well, which hasn’t been the norm in Houston.

They are 18th in the NBA with 111.6 points per game and 23rd with a 45.4% field goal percentage. It’s tough for the Rockets to hit freebies as well.

Houston is 30th in the NBA with a free-throw percentage of 70.9%. There are small things that a bad team can do to steal games; free throws is one of them. The Rockets can’t even do this right, though.

Laying points with the Wizards on the road isn’t a bet that you are going to want to make much, but against a team that has given up in the Rockets, this looks like a good opportunity.
