Washington Wizards vs. New York Knicks Pick – NBA March 18, 2022

The Washington Wizards and New York Knicks have a Friday night date scheduled at Madison Square Garden. Washington is looking for better after their fifth straight loss.

They are coming off a 127-109 loss two days back versus the Denver Nuggets. It was another frustrating day for the Wizards. They were coming off a 126-112 loss at Golden State and didn’t respond well.

The worst of all was a 127-118 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on March 12. The Trail Blazers are a terrible team at the moment and don’t have much going in their favor. In any event, the Wizards didn’t have anything in them.

The Wizards have been empty and little motivation on the floor. They have regressed to 29-39 after a decent start this season. The absence of Bradley Beal is obviously going to play a role in their struggles. Kristaps Porzingis came to a terrible situation in Washington.

Beal is what the Wizards base their team around, and he’s been injured with a wrist injury. He hasn’t played since late January. Since then, the Wizards are going through the motions on the floor.

His presence is so beneficial on both ends of the floor. Beal leadership off the floor also plays an impact for the Wizards.

With Beal out, the Wizards are without his 23.2 points and 6.6 assists per game. That hurts a lot.

After winning four of their previous six attempts, the Knicks are in decent enough form. It has been an up and down campaign for the Knicks, but they show up big in spots.

On Wednesday, they are coming off a solid performance over the Portland Trail Blazers. It’s the Blazers, but that’s the same team Washington recently struggled to be competitive against.

Wizards vs. Knicks Prediction:

The Wizards are lost without Bradley Beal on the floor. There isn’t much they can do to replace his production. They’ve especially been getting hammered hard on the defensive floor.

The Wizards have allowed 123.4 points per game and a 51.8% field goal percentage through their last five outings. Allowing better than a 50% field goal percentage is something you see from a bad college team.

Note that in their last eight outings, they’ve conceded 113 points in every performance. The Wizards gave up more than 120 points in five of those games.

It’s tough stuff from the Wizards, but it isn’t unexpected when they don’t have Beal on the floor. On a five-game losing streak, expect things to get more difficult for the Wizards at MSG tonight.

Washington Wizards vs. New York Knicks Betting Trends:

  • 0-4 ATS in their previous four games after a loss
  • 0-4 ATS in their previous four games as an underdog
  • 3-7 ATS in their previous ten games as an underdog on the road
  • 4-22-1 ATS in their previous 27 games versus a team with a losing record
  • 1-6 ATS in their previous seven games on a Friday
  • 7-0 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 5-0 ATS in thier previous five games on one-day rest
  • 6-1 ATS in their previous seven games after a loss by more than 10 points
  • 8-3 ATS in their previous 11 games versus a team with a losing road record
  • 7-0 ATS in their previous seven games after scoring more than 125 points

The Knicks haven’t been as tough defensively as last year, but still better than most of the NBA. They are the fifth-best team in the league with a 44.5% field goal percentage against.

Overall, the Knicks have given up 106.9 points per game for eighth in the league. The offense needs to improve for the Knicks, but this is likely going to be fine versus the Wizards, who have been unable to stop anyone.

After exploiting a bad Portland defense, look for the Knicks to do the same on Friday night. The Wizards aren’t all the best scoring, either.

Without Beal, they’re doubly worse this season. Washington is 21st in the NBA with 108.4 points per game. Their offensive output has dropped to 105.4 points per game on the road.

The Knicks have a bit of confidence behind them, and after smashing the Blazers, this should be another winnable game. The line looks on the short side in this spot. I’d ride with the Knicks at MSG on Friday night.
