Our winning streak came to a close last night with the monumental upset of Kansas by the Kansas State Jayhawks, but the story gets overshadowed by the inevitable finally occurring. Kansas State’s fans were predictably overjoyed with their upset win over Kansas, but the chaos of the ‘court storming’ afterwards has some reports of Kansas players getting pushed and some dangerous situations. Nothing tragic happened, but it does seem rather inevitable that at some point something really really bad is going to happen in one of the scenarios… I don’t expect this story to go away quickly this time.
Back on the court, Louisville fans have to be uneasy after last night’s clunker. Yes, they somehow came back to beat Georgia Tech 52-51, but they trailed 24-17 in the first half and didn’t look like a team that can make the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. They are going to have to find someone other than just Terry Rozier who can score if they are going to survive the end of the schedule which still includes Notre Dame and Virginia.
There are some fantastic games tonight, so let’s dive in and see if we can notch a winning pick.

Today’s Free Pick:
Wisconsin Badgers -6 at Maryland Terrapins
I’ve been big on Maryland for a while this season. They have a nice blend of young talent (Melo Trimble)and veteran borderline pro-talent (Dez Wells, Jake Hayman), and at 22-5 they are one of the more underrated, quietly lurking teams in the nation. However, one of the reasons people have shied away from the Terps lately is that even their wins haven’t been real convincing. Maryland has won seven of their last ten but is just 2-8 ATS in the stretch. They are just 1-5 ATS in their last five home games. They won all six of them, but they beat Penn State, Nebraska, Indiana and Northwestern by an average of just 3.25 points.
Tonight, they ain’t playing Northwestern or Penn State. Instead they get the runaway Big Ten Champs, who have designs on far more than a conference crown this season. Wisconsin enters with just two losses on the season, one to Duke and the other a weird one to Rutgers without Kaminski. They’ve won their last ten games, but are just 4-5-1 ATS over that stretch. However, when you dig deeper into that 4-5-1, you’ll see a lot of games they won easily but were laying SO MANY points they failed to cover. Could they have covered? Probably. But they didn’t pour it on in many instances when the game was long in hand.
This game is a legit contest, so it’s unlikely Wisconsin will have to pull up early, and that might be a good thing for the spread. Maryland is 3-10-1 ATS at home. Wisconsin is 7-5. The Badgers are the better team and a win tonight all but locks up a #1 seed. I think they’ll play well on the road tonight and cover the half dozen at Maryland.
