Alabama vs. Mississippi State Pick – CFB November 14th

Alabama got a big test out of the way last week against LSU. They thoroughly dominated the contest with a final score of 30-16. Alabama was never threatened and they handed LSU their first loss of the season. It wasn’t some huge blowout, but a 30-16 win over LSU is impressive nonetheless. LSU was in the college football playoff with their previous ranking, but will now have to win the SEC to get in, I believe. With 1 loss Alabama is in a much better position. In fact, they are ranked 3rd in the country with the loss. Undefeated teams like Oklahoma State are on the outside looking in of Alabama. There has been a lot of discussion about how 1 loss teams can be ahead of ones that haven’t lost a game. Playing in the BIG 12 vs the SEC will do that to you. There has not been one team this season that has really claimed the spot as the best team in the country.

Each week there are teams you can think, oh maybe they are the best team in the nation. The next week it’s another. Right now the top of the heap is Clemson. Even them, the verdict is still out on. Number 2 Ohio State hasn’t impressed me much this season and Alabama already has a loss. Baylor? I don’t trust their defense. The field is wide open and I am not so confident Clemson is going to remain at the top. Who knows though, any handicapper that picks the national champion right now, in my opinion, is spinning a ball on a roulette wheel and hoping for his bet to hit.

You have to admit as a sports bettor that you have no clue, and I have no clue who is going to win it all. After the final 4 is set though, I think I’ll have a much better idea. For today, Mississippi State is trying to get the voting committee a little upset with a win over Bama. Lets be honest, they want the Crimson Tide in the college football playoff. They are a ratings machine and would benefit the bottom line of college football. The Bulldogs have the home field tonight, as they look to catch Bama in a letdown spot from last week.

Alabama vs. Mississippi State Pick:

Alabama better not slouch after their win over LSU last week. Mississippi State is going to be a hungry team this week looking to take the Crimson Tide down. The last time the Bulldogs have beaten Alabama was all the way back in 2007 when Wesley Carroll was quarterback. Carrol transferred to FIU and I couldn’t tell you what he’s doing these days. Carroll was looking to make a name for himself at Mississippi State, but that didn’t work out so well. However, he can say that he beat Alabama. This season the Bulldogs have a quarterback playing at an elite level. If any guy could beat Alabama it’s Dak Prescott. I know you’re thinking that it doesn’t make much sense. Although, you need to take a look at what kind of quarterback Dak is, a mobile quarterback that can make it work with his arm or legs.

Prescott has passed for a whopping 18 touchdowns and 1 interception this season. Add the ground game, and he has 25 touchdowns. That is impressive, I don’t care who you are, and Dak is doing it all in the SEC. In a conference that doesn’t have much of any excellent quarterbacks, Dak Prescott shines through. The Bulldogs are 7-2 for a reason, they’re a pretty good team. Bama already lost to Ole Miss this season and will look to avoid losing to the other team in Mississippi this season. Statistically the Bulldogs have been right there with Alabama. They are averaging 34.7 points per game to Alabama’s 33.1, conversely, defensively they appear even as well with Alabama’s 16.3 allowed to the Bulldogs 17.2. My take is that Alabama is going to be in for a fight in this game. They might slack off for a bit after beating LSU last week. But this Mississippi State team is not the team you want to slack off against. Missouri has one of the best defenses in college football, but they put up 31 on them. Alabama has a strong defense as well, but I think Prescott has a coming out party to the rest of the world this afternoon. Mississippi State comes up just short, but should get a cover.
