Arizona State vs Arizona Spread Predictions College Football

Two long-time conference and in-state rivals meet this Thursday night (8:00pm ET) when the Arizona St. Sun Devils (5-6) travel to Tucson, AZ to face the Arizona Wildcats (7-4) in a Pac-10 matchup. Arizona St. is fresh off of a 55-34 throttling of UCLA last week at home to end their two-game winning streak, while Arizona come sin reeling after losing their last three games, including a 48-29 loss at top-ranked Oregon last week. Arizona has won the last two meetings between the two teams, including a 20-17 victory in Tempe last season, but the Sun Devils have won 5 out of the last 8 meetings overall.

ASU is led on offense by quarterback Steven Threet, who has thrown for over 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns with 16 interceptions on the campaign. The ASU offense ranks 12th in the nation in passing yards per game with 288.2, and averages 32.5 points per contest so the Sun Devils have not had trouble moving the football this season. The Achilles heel for ASU has been their pass defense, which ranks a dismal 98th in the nation with 243.4 YPG allowed; the defense as a whole ranks in the middle of the pack with 24.6 PPG allowed.

Arizona St. vs. Arizona Betting Predictions for Thursday:

Spread Prediction (Top Play) – Arizona will enter this contest with a bad taste in their mouth after taking one on the chin against Oregon last week and will be looking to exact revenge on ASU. The Sun Devils porous pass defense matches up very favorably for Foles and company, and Arizona should have a field day throwing the football on Thursday night. Look for Foles to throw early and often and for ASU to be playing catch-up all game long. That scenario does not bode well for the Sun Devils as their QB has been mistake-prone all season long and if they are forced to throw look for the Wildcat defense to force turnovers and build up a lead that they will not relinquish.

PREDICTION (Top Play) – Arizona -5

Over/Under Prediction – Take the under here, the under has come in the last five head-to-head meetings between the two teams. ASU will struggle to score against a tough Arizona defense with their one-dimensional, pass-oriented offense. Expect this to be a fairly one-sided affair with Arizona at home and looking to end a 3 game skid by taking it out on their more celebrated in-state rivals. This has been a down year for Arizona St., and the Wildcats would like nothing more than to cap off the regular season and secure a solid bowl bid by pasting the Sun Devils. Look for Arizona to shut down the inconsistent Threet and keep ASU in check for most of the game.
