Head Coach John Smith will look to get his Atlanta Falcons back to the postseason this year, after falling a bit short last season. To do that, quarterback Matt Ryan will need to continue throwing the ball effectively, and Michael Turner will need to run wild, like 2008-2009. Ryan finished last season with just shy of 3000 passing yards, along with 22 touchdowns. His top receiver was Roddy White, who caught 11 passes, with an additional 1153 yards.
Running back Michael Turner rushed 178 times for 871 yards, with 10 touchdowns. Last year Turner was sidelined for a lot of the season due to injury. He is healthy in 2010 and ready to have another breakout rushing season.
Atlanta competes in the NFC South, with the defending Superbowl champion New Orleans Saints. The Falcons will also see a young Carolina team, along with Tampa Bay. Atlanta will play all three of these two twice during the season. The rest of the Atlanta schedule looks like this: @ Pittsburgh, w/ Arizona, w/ San Francisco, @ Cleveland, @ Philadelphia, w/ Cincinnati, w/ Baltimore, @ St. Louis, w/ Green Bay and @ Seattle.
Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl Odds
While the Atlanta Falcons may not be favored to win their division, they can be a player at the top of the NFC. Starting the season, the Atlanta Falcons have +1000 odds to win the NFC. These odds are tied for the fifth best in the NFC.
Atlanta comes into the 2010 – 2011 season with +2000 betting odds to win the Super Bowl. This is tied for the 10th best odds in the entire NFL. If you were to wager $100 on the Falcons to win the Super Bowl at +2000, it would return $2000 if they did indeed win the Super Bowl. Atlanta Falcons 2010/2011 Predictions
We look for Michael Turner to have a MVP type season similar to 2008. As always it will be difficult for the Falcons to win their division, but we do feel they have what it takes to reach the postseason. When a team like Atlanta gets to the postseason, it’s hard to count them out – because you just never know what can happen.
We highly recommend putting a small wager out there at Sportsbook.com on Atlanta to win the NFC, as I think there is some value with the +1000 odds. We would even advise you take that a step further and put a very small wager out on the Falcons to win the Superbowl at +2000 odds. It’s a little risky as they aren’t the clear cut playoff team, but in this case one that is well worth taking.
