The key to this game for Auburn, as it has been all season long, will be Heisman Trophy front-runner Cameron Newton their exciting dual-threat quarterback. Newton commands and offense that ranks 9th in total yards per game with 491.3, 6th in rushing yards per game with 292.5 and 7th in points per game with 41.6. The Tiger signal caller has thrown for 24 touchdowns through the air and scored 18 rushing touchdowns while averaging 5.9 YPC, he has been the best player on the field in every game this season and is a true difference maker for Auburn. The Tiger defense has been much shakier than the offense this season especially in the secondary, ranking 106th nationally with 255.2 passing yards per game allowed. Auburn ranks 53rd nationally with 354.9 YPG allowed overall and they have allowed 25.1 PPG. Auburn did step it up last week in the second half against Alabama, limiting the Tide to 67 total yards in the second half.

The Gamecocks have multiple big-play threats on offense that the inconsistent Auburn defense will need to account for. For South Carolina, tailback Marcus Lattimore has been sensational all season, averaging 4.8 YPC with 19 total touchdowns as a freshman. When quarterback Stephen Garcia looks to throw, sophomore Alshon Jeffrey, a big target at 6’4” and 233 lbs., will be the main target. Jeffrey has accumulated 1,351 yards receiving (18.0 YPR) with eight touchdowns on the season. On defense, South Carolina ranks 100th nationally in pass defense with 245.5 YPG allowed through the air, but 34th in total yards allowed per game with 337.1 and 25th in scoring defense with 20.2 PPG allowed.

The over is 5-2 in Auburn’s last 7 games overall and 5-2 in the Tiger’s last 7 SEC games. The over is 7-3 in South Carolina’s last 10 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 SEC games.

Auburn vs. South Carolina SEC Championship Predictions:

Spread Prediction (Top Play) – Auburn has found a way all season long, even when they have been down big the Tigers have come back. That should continue in this game and Auburn will likely be playing for the National Title. South Carolina has the offensive playmakers and the stout run defense to give Auburn a run for their money, but in the end expect Newton and company to pull out another tough victory.

PREDICTION (Top Play) – Auburn -4.5

Over/Under Prediction – Take the under here, the trend favors the over but Auburn will be facing a tough SEC defense for the second time this season and look for South Carolina to hold the Tigers below the 35 they allowed last time out when the game was at Auburn. SEC titles have traditionally come down to who has the better defense, and even with two of the worst pass defense in the nation playing in this game expect the defenses to step up and play better than they have over the course of the season. Auburn’s defense has been improving over the course of the game, allowing a descending number of points in each quarter from 110 in the first quarter to 45 in the fourth quarter. If South Carolina is going to strike they will strike early.
