Bears Lions Spread Line and Betting Predictions

The Detroit Lions were blown out by the Patriots 45-24 on thanksgiving last week. Second string QB Shaun Hill has been lost for the season after breaking a finger, so the Lions will be turning to 3rd string QB Drew Stanton. The only positive in any of this is that Detroit have had extra time to get ready for this week’s matchup against their division rivals Chicago. The Bears, on the flip side, are coming off a big victory over the Eagles, and have many believing they’re the best team in the NFC.

The Bears defense is playing better than any team in the league right now. They managed to contain Vick last week, and even though he threw for over 300 yards, they brought pressure up the middle, sacking him 4 times, and rattling the Eagles game plan. Philly couldn’t get their running game going, with LeSean McCoy only running the ball 10 times. This week the Bears 2nd ranked run defense shouldn’t have any problems against the Lions this week. Detroit’s running game has been lackluster since RB Jahvid Best first appeared on the injury report with turf toe. For the Lions to stay close in this game they’ll have to rely on some big plays from their receivers, special teams, and secondary. If there’s ever a QB you can rely on giving you chances to win, its Bears QB Jay Cutler.

In 10 games this year, Cutler has thrown at least 1 interception in 6 of those games. He’ll force the ball into some areas and Detroit will have a chance to turn some of those turnovers into points. Detroit have forced 21 turnovers this year and they’ll be prepared for this game after the long delay and the revenge factor dating back to week 1 of the season when the Lions thought they won, until the Calvin Johnson rule came into effect. On the other side of the ball, the Lions passing game with Drew Stanton is a significant downgrade. However there’s not much tape on Stanton with only 7 career games under his belt. The Lions will undoubtedly shorten the playbook for Stanton and try to keep things as simple as possible.

Bears vs. Lions Predictions for Week 13 Betting:

Spread Prediction (Top Play): This is an interesting matchup because on paper and in theory the Bears should be more than a TD favorite. But the spread is only 5, which indicates the odds makers think it’ll be closer than expected, and here’s why I agree. Chicago are coming off a big win, so this week is a letdown situation for them on the road against a divisional opponent. The Bears play New England next week, and they’ll surely be looking forward to try knocking off another one of the NFL’s best. They also won’t want to give anything for the Pats to study, so look for a simple game plan from the Bears. With the Lions’ season finished early again, they live for divisional games. Consider the revenge factor from week 1, and I like the Lions to cover. Detroit are 6-1 ATS this year vs. a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 at home.

Top Play Prediction = Detroit + 5

Game Total Prediction: I really wish this number was lower, but 43.5 will have to do. I’ve predicted a letdown from Chicago, and I think that’ll affect their defense more. The Lions offense isn’t very good, but they do have talented receivers and good special teams so I like them to put points on the board. The Over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings and 3-1-1 in the last 5in Detroit.

Total Prediction = Over 43.5
