CFL Picks – Toronto Argonauts vs Montreal Alouettes July 15th

A winner yesterday with our pick on the Blue Bombers +3.5.  Winnipeg fell just short of going 3-0 on the season, with a 21-20 loss to the Stampeders.  The Bombers actually had a shot at winning the game with a late field goal, but the kicker came up short and wide left to seal the victory for Calgary, who moves to 2-1 on the year.  Congrats to all of those who followed last night’s play.

Tonight we have the Montreal Alouettes hosting the Toronto Argonauts.  The Argos are looking to improve to 2-1, while the Alouettes hope to stay a top the East moving to 3-0 with a victory in front of their home crowd.   Toronto opened the season with a 23-21 road victory in Calgary and then followed that up with a 22-16 loss in Winnipeg in Week 2.  Toronto will be playing their third straight road game to kick off the season.  Montreal opened the season at home with a 30-26 victory over the BC Lions, and then travelled to Saskatchewan and cruised to a 39-25 win to start the season 2-0.

Tonight’s game is a big one for both teams, as Montreal looks to prove they are going to be the team to beat agains this year, while the Argos would be happy keeping this one close in a tough stadium to play in.

Tonight’s CFL Pick

I’m taking Montreal to cover the 10 point spread tonight at home, against a team that they have had success against over recent years.  Anthony Calvillo has thrown 8 TD passes in his first two games, and needs just one more tonight to break Damon Allen’s record 394 TD passes.  Although the Argo’s defense hasn’t allowed a passing touchdown against in their first two games, I have a feeling one of the CFL’s best will be able to solve them tonight in Montreal.  While Calvillo has thrown for 8 touchdowns and just 1 interception, Toronto’s Cleo Lemon has thrown for just 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.  The Argo’s didn’t establish a running game in their loss, and will need to tonight if they have any chance of keeping pace with an Alouette offense that can put up big numbers.  The Argonauts are just 2-9 Against The Spread (ATS) in their last 11 meetings with the Alouettes, which includes 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Montreal.  The Alouettes offense is in a different league than what the Argonauts can bring, and I don’t think Toronto has the defense to stop Calvillo on his record breaking night.  Lock it in with the 10 points (before it moves to 10.5) and enjoy a CFL record breaking night, as we cash our wager in the process.
