Colts vs. Giants Pick – Week 9 MNF

It’s been a pretty dismal week for NFL picks during Week 9 here at The Sports Geek, but perhaps a big winner Monday night will give us some momentum heading into the second half of the NFL campaign. The Texans, Broncos, and Ravens were all busts yesterday, essentially giving their games away off a series of frustrating events. All three of those squads are better than what they showed yesterday, and should be able to rebound nicely the rest of the way. Tonight we’ve got yet another intriguing encounter to break down, again with massive playoff implications on the line. The competitive NFC East is tightening up and the Giants still have a shot. They’ll be hosting a prolific Colts squad fresh off being dismantled by the suddenly red-hot Steelers. It promises to be a Monday night match-up filled with intrigue and points, and despite our slow Week 9 start, we’re always eager to finish with a bang! Read on below for a full breakdown and our official wager.

Colts vs. Giants Pick:

Despite the crazy game the Colts found themselves involved in last night, Andrew Luck and the Colts attack was still pretty solid. Pittsburgh brought a ton of pressure and gave him a variety of different looks, but the Colts offense still flourished. Time and time again, Luck and his receivers have proven they’re one of, if not the best offensive unit in football, and look for tonight to be yet another shining example of that. The Giants defense has faced many question marks in 2014, but they’re a solid unit. Still, you have to favour Luck in this match-up, especially since it looks like Reggie Wayne will return to the lineup tonight. Luck is bordering on MVP-territory and he’s usually quite sharp off a loss. Though the G-Men have some solid defensive pieces, the depth in attacking weapons will likely prove to be just too much for New York.

One area where you have to definitively favour Indy is their running game. It’s been solid thus far, while the Giants’ run defense has been shaky at best. Entering tonight, it currently ranks 29th in the NFL, conceding a pathetic 4.76 yards per carry. Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson are both in for solid outings, especially with New York’s Jon Beason now done for the year.

Conversely, on the other side of the football it looks like the Giants will be hard-pressed to move the ball this evening. Their run game has looked atrocious without Rashad Jennings. Rookie Andre Williams hasn’t been able to adequately fill the void. As a result, the Giants offense as a whole should struggle. Against Dallas, without a running game, Eli and the passing attack looked brutal. Expect Indy to simply focus on stopping the aerial attack and their vulnerable defense should be able to cope. Also of note is the fact that key defensive player for Indy, Vontae Davis, is supposed to return to the lineup. The Colts hugely missed Davis, and getting him back will severely limit Eli’s effectiveness. I really don’t see the Giants having success moving the chains tonight.

Simply put, the Colts are the superior team in this match-up and you can bet they’ll be eager following last week’s embarrassment in Pittsburgh. Getting Reggie Wayne back boost the offense, while Vontae Davis will really enhance a defensive unit that looked lost without him. Andrew Luck is 10-1 following a loss, and should be able to bounceback once again tonight in fine fashion. Colts by at least three to end off the betting week on a winning note.

PICK = Colts -3 (-120)
