Eagles Redskins Spread Predictions and MNF Betting Line

Donovan McNabb got his revenge on the Eagles in the first meeting, but these teams appear headed in opposite directions. McNabb was benched for Rex Grossman last time out, but should be healthy and in sufficient cardiovascular shape for Mike Shanahan to stick with him for all 60 minutes, right? The Redskins are good for at least one circus-like subplot a week. Michael Vick was knocked from the game last time these two teams got together. It should be a very different challenge for the ‘Skins on Monday night with the Eagles rolling now. The (4-4) Washington Redskins will look to stay in the hunt for the NFC East title when they host the blossoming (5-3) Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, kickoff slated for 8:30 PM EST. Eagles and Redskins fans alike are ready to watch what could come down to a battle of the quarterbacks. Returning to Philly in a new uniform, Redskins QB Donovan McNabb will have one goal in mind when he enters Lincoln Financial Field this weekend. On the other side of the ball, emerging Eagles QB Michael Vick will have a game plan of his own.

McNabb’s woes have made the Eagles look smart for dealing him to the Redskins. That seems to be the case because of the success of Vick, who has thrown for 1,017 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions, and whose NFL-leading passer rating of 105.3 is the highest of his career. Vick got hurt against the Redskins because he was fighting for extra yards on one of his patented scrambles. He won’t alter his approach.Philadelphia is coming off its biggest win of the season after outdueling Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts 26-24 last Sunday. The Eagles did not cover as a 3 ½ point home favorite and the total went ‘over’ the 46 ½ point line. The win kept them one game in back of New York in the division, taking their record to 5-3 straight-up but dropping them to 3-5 against the spread. One of the biggest reasons for the Eagles success this season has been the reemergence of Michael Vick as one of the most talented and dynamic quarterbacks in the league today. Even after missing two games with a rib injury, he has thrown for 1,017 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions. He has also got it done with his feet, gaining 261 yards on 36 carries for an average of 7.3 yards per run. When you add in skill players like WR’s DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin along with RB LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia has one of the most talented offenses in the league.

“Donovan’s our quarterback,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Sunday night. “One hundred percent.” Since Shanahan yanked Donovan McNabb for the final two minutes of Washington’s Week 8 loss to Detroit, that’s been a question hanging over the franchise. McNabb, who’s been plagued by two strained hamstrings, gets the start against his old team. Question is, Will he finish? Shanahan is a bottom-line guy. He’s certainly been disappointed in McNabb’s 57.4% accuracy and might not have a long leash if the Eagles cuff the veteran QB around on Monday. Shanahan’s history suggests McNabb will have to play better and more consistently, beginning Monday night, to remain Washington’s long-term starter. Washington is coming off its bye week which could not have been better timed given the controversy that developed between head coach Mike Shanahan and his starting quarterback in the Redskins 37-25 loss to Detroit the week before. Shanahan decided to sit McNabb for the final two minutes of the game in favor of backup Rex Grossman. Only time will tell the long-term effects of this decision. The loss dropped Washington to 4-4 SU and since it did not cover as a 2 ½ point road underdog against the Lions, it fell to 4-3-1 ATS. The Redskins are 2-2 SU at home this season and 2-1-1 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in three of their last five games. Granted, McNabb has played inconsistent in his first eight games, but he has been under constant pressure behind a very shaky offensive line. Overall, Washington is ranked 19th in total offense and 23rd in scoring; averaging 19.4 points per game. Defensively, things are even worse as this unit is ranked next to last in total defense; 18th against the run and 31st against the pass. It ranks 16th in points allowed; giving up an average of 21.2 per game.

Eagles vs Redskins Prediction for Week 10:

Game Total Prediction (TOP PLAY) – One thing I and the rest of the NFL world have come to realize is that Donovan McNabb is a fighter and with his back against the wall you better bet he will find a way out. It was a very embarrassing and humble moment for the veteran pivot when he was benched in the final two minutes in Detroit, in favor for Rex Grossman of all quarterbacks. I look for Donovan to come out and put forth a very solid effort. The total has gone OVER in 12 of Washington’s last 18 games and the Redskins are desperately in need of victory Monday night in order to stay alive in the highly contested NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles are blossoming at the right time and they have looked very impressive as of late. QB Michael Vick has returned from his rib injury and has resumed where he left off. The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 5 games. The Redskins seem to soak up the limelight and play well under the watchful eyes of national television, the Skins’ have scored 25.2 points in there last 5 nationally televised games. Washington also is known for lighting the scoreboard up at FedEx Field as of late as the total has gone OVER in 6 of Washington’s last 9 games at home. One last punch to this equation, the Eagles are good travelers, The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 5 games on the road. We will consider the OVER in this primetime NFC East affair in Maryland.

Top Play Prediction = OVER 42.5 Total Points

Spread Prediction – The Eagles are clicking on all cylinders and anyone would be hard pressed to bet against them at this point in time. QB Michael Vick looks virtually unstoppable as he is running and throwing at will. The Eagles are a very dominant bunch when playing their rival Skin’s to the South, Philadelphia is 12-6 SU in its last 18 games when playing Washington. Even more impressive, Philadelphia is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games when playing on the road against Washington. The Skins’s on the other hand are beginning to bottom out and their once bright outlook on the 2010 season is all but gone. In their last outing before their bye last week, the Redskins were smacked in the mouth in Detroit. They now return home where they haven’t held the most dominant of home field advantages, Washington is 6-11-1 ATS in its last 18 games at home. To add onto this stat, Washington is 5-10 ATS in its last 15 games when playing at home against Philadelphia. The play here is on the surging Eagles. Cheers!

Prediction = Eagles -3
