Week three of the 2015 college football season features a Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm ET) matchup pitting two top 25 teams in the 14th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-0) of the ACC against the 8th ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN. The Yellow Jackets are led by veteran head coach Paul Johnson and the Irish are led by Brian Kelly.
The Yellow Jackets opened their 2015 season with 69-6 demolition of Appalachian St. at home in week one, and followed that up with a 65-10 tune-up against Tulane at home last week. Georgia Tech runs the triple-option on offense under Johnson, and their triggerman is quarterback Justin Thomas who is not a threat to throw the ball, with only 10 passes so far this season in the two easy wins. He is a more than capable runner, and ran 10 times for 72 yards last week against Tulane.

The Fighting Irish started their season with a bang, defeating Texas 38-3 at home in a thoroughly dominating win on both sides of the ball. In week two, the Fighting Irish went on the road to take on another ACC team in Virginia and pulled out an exciting 34-27 win over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. The win was costly for ND as they lost starting quarterback Malik Zaire for the season with an ankle injury, DeShone Kizer stepped up under center and pulled the game out in the final seconds with a clutch touchdown pass to budding star wide receiver Will Fuller. ND also must replace starting tailback Tarean Folston, who was injured against Texas, and running back C.J. Prosise stepped up big time last week against Virginia with 155 yards rushing.

Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame Pick:
Georgia Tech is 9-0 ATS in their last 9 games on grass, 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games against winning teams and 9-0 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Fighting Irish are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on grass, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The over is 4-0 in the Yellow Jackets’ last 4 games overall, 8-2 in their last 10 road games and 6-1 in their last 7 non-conference games. The over is 7-1 in ND’s last 8 games overall, 6-1 in their last 7 games on grass and 4-0 in their last 4 games against winning teams.
The trends against the spread trend heavily in favor of the Yellow Jackets, and tilt heavily against the Fighting Irish. The trend for both teams overwhelmingly favors the over.It is hard to recommend a play on the over at 54 or greater given that ND has Kizer under center in his first ever start and boasts what is still a strong defnese at home. On the other hand, with Zaire out ND will not have a dual-threat that Georgia Tech must account for in the running game, and their passing game will be somewhat limited as well. The Yellow Jackets are a tough team to defend and prepare for under the best of circumstances, in this case they should have a decided advantage over Notre Dame. Take the Yellow Jackets here.
