Giants Colts Spread, Line and Predictions Week 2

The Manning Bowl part II will take place this Sunday night in what will be a highly tuned in affair as both Manning brothers now both own Superbowl rings. The last time these siblings hooked up was back in 2006 when the Colts narrowly escaped a fourth quarter push by the Giants and won the game 26-21. Lucas Oil Field will be the site of this contest as the (1-0) New York Giants face the stunned (0-1) Indianapolis Colts, kickoff is slated for 8:20PM EST. This game will not only be centered around the rivalry of the Manning brothers but also it will be interesting to watch how the Colts attack the Giants defense after Giants FS Antrelle Rolle’s chalk board words against the Colts this past week. This primetime game will be sure to entertain and also has serious implications on the season outlook for both teams.

The Giants were able to cruise to victory last Sunday against the hapless Carolina Panthers with their formidable pass rush and solid play on the part of QB Eli Manning. WR Hakeem Nicks had a career day last week as he snagged 3 touchdown passes, tied for the most touchdown receptions on opening week in all-time Giants history. The win did not come without considerable areas for improvement, The Giants committed four turnovers, were penalized nine times for 95 yards and went 5 for 14 on third down. The special teams were also a cause for concern and were sternly addressed by coach Tom Coughlin all this week in preparation for this weeks tilt against the Colts. The Giants will be without starting tight end Kevin Boss, who suffered a concussion after being hit on the opening drive. If the Giants can walk out of Lucas Oil Field with another win then it will give them early season confidence that is extremely sought after and may give them what they need to play out the rest of the season.

The Indianapolis Colts are an average team at best without Peyton Manning and some holes were exposed last Sunday against the Texans, especially the defensive front 7. Second year RB Arian Foster of the Texans was able to scorch the Colts defense and run for 3 scores. On the other side of the ball, the offensive line was beaten and bruised against the Texans as they allowed Manning to be sacked twice and hurried many times throughout the game. After the dismal performance against Houston the news didn’t get any more sweeter for the Colts, Wednesday news broke that star safety Bob Sanders was lost indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a torn biceps muscle in his right arm. The Colts will need to establish RB Joseph Addai early in this contest as he was only able to rush for 44 yards last week and the running game was virtually abandoned in the second half. Whether it be a Superbowl hangover from their tilt against the Saints or just early season rust, the Indianapolis Colts need to shore up their glaring holes fast to prevent going 0-2 to open up the season for the first time since Manning’s 1998 rookie season, the Colts need to bounce back from a stunning opening loss when they host Eli Manning and the New York Giants on Sunday night.

Giants vs Colts Prediction for Week 2:

Game Total Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Any game with Peyton Manning under center has the ability to go over the total, even if the opposing team is unable to put up a single point. I see this game being a statement game for Manning and the Colts offense and they will want to make amends for their effort last week and also apologize to Colts fans for being shutdown late last year as the starters were all conserved for the playoffs. The Giants will be able to keep pace in this match and with their tall, speedy wide outs they will be able to create mismatches all over the Colts smaller secondary. These are a few trends to keep in mind and why this is my top play, they are as follows:

The total has gone OVER in 5 of the NY Giants last 5 games.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of the NY Giants last 5 games on the road.
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Indianapolis’s last 8 games.

I tend to stray away from games that are strongly being pushed by the betting public but I am going to jump on this bandwagon as there is just too many factors that make this game push over. I strongly recommend considering the over in this contest.

Spread Prediction – For all of the Colts weaknesses and holes that were exposed to the NFL against the Texans, they are the Indianapolis Colts, and they will be just fine. Peyton Manning will want to avenge last week’s performance and should be able to pick his spots in an unsettled Giants secondary. The Colts have a five game winning streak against NFL opponents and have won 15 of their last 17 home games. Another stat to consider, the Giants are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road. I see this game being fairly close but the Colts should be able to win by 7 – 10 points, possibly a 31-21 type of affair. Take a look at the Colts and the points in this primetime match up. Cheers!
