Giants Cowboys Spread Line and MNF Predictions

The Cowboys are in disarray and have problems all over the field. The Wade Phillips saga continues with the 1-4 Cowboys coming off another loss in which penalties and turnovers doomed them. The Giants are the hottest team in the NFC and a win here further cements them atop the NFC East. The (1-4) Dallas Cowboys will try to salvage their season tonight against the hot (4-2) New York Giants at Cowboys Stadium, kickoff slated for 8:30 PM EST. Dallas is 55-38-2 overall versus New York, but the Giants swept the Cowboys last season for the first time since 2004. New York won 33-31 at Dallas in Week 2 and completed the sweep with a 31-24 triumph at Giants Stadium in Week 13.

The New York Giants, after a dismal start to their 2010 campaign, are arguably the hottest team in the league and are guided by their all-pro defensive front four. The Giants enter on a three-game winning streak on the strength of a defense that has limited opponents to an NFC-best 264.8 yards per game. The resurgence of Osi Umenyiora has keyed the success. Despite a nagging knee injury that has limited him to roughly two practices a week, Umenyiora has seven sacks and six forced fumbles over the last three games. The two-time Pro Bowler has surpassed his 2009 sack total of seven when he was benched near the end of the season for ineffectiveness. New York has won 14 consecutive games when Justin Tuck has a sack. Giants quarterback Eli Manning is 19-4 in October starts throughout his career, the best winning percentage among Super Bowl era signal-callers. Manning’s 64.7 per cent completion rate (132-204) is his finest ever. More efficient than flashy, he has thrown 10 touchdown passes with eight interceptions. With running back Ahmad Bradshaw and bruising Brandon Jacobs in the backfield, New York has averaged 157.8 rushing yards in its last three games — all wins — and its rejuvenated defence ranks second in the league in fewest yards (264.8) and fewest passing yards (172) allowed per game.

The Dallas Cowboys are determined to avoid their worst six-game start since losing eight straight to open the 1989 NFL season. All of the Cowboys struggles are not so easily visible, in fact the Cowboys rank third in total offence (400.7) and fourth in passing (305) per game. Romo, a three-time Pro Bowler, is passing at a career-best 69.4 per cent clip (143-206), with 10 TDs and seven INTs. Miscues and penalties have proven costly. Mindful the Giants surrendered 302 passing yards last week, the Cowboys, the defending NFC East champions, will look to generate offence through the air, provided they continue to protect the quarterback. New York is ferocious up front with 21 sacks — 14 of them coming in the last three. That, and the Cowboys’ recent penchant for shooting themselves in the foot, makes for an intriguing Monday nighter. Dallas loss and reporters will flock to Jerry Jones postgame, again. Could the Cowboys double their opponent’s yardage, yet lose again?

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – I like this spot for the Cowboys. They return home after to play a divisional opponent on a Monday night with their season hanging in the balance. Dallas is 70-47 ATS in home games against conference opponents since 1992. Dallas features the third-best offense and fourth-best defense in the league based on yardage. The Cowboys outgained Minnesota 314-188 in last Sunday’s 24-21 road loss, but made numerous mistakes. The Giants played a unimpressive game against the Detroit Lions last week and for if it were not for a late game fumble on the part of the Lions then they might have lost. For all of the “hoopla” the Giants receive, they are in fact 2-5 ATS in their last 7 outings and have not covered against the Giants on Monday night in their last 5 attempts. We will consider America’s team turning their season around tonight against their hated nemesis in the men from the Big Apple.

Top Play Prediction = Dallas Cowboys -3

Game Total Prediction – These two squads have the fire power to put up points with the best of them. Both Eli Manning and Tony Romo lead powerful offenses that can keep them in any game they play. The Giants have reached the OVER in 8 of their last 11 games. The Cowboys, when playing on Monday night, have reached the OVER 5-2 times in the last 4 years. 3 of 4 games in this series have gone OVER THE TOTAL over the last 2 seasons. I would recommend taking a look at the OVER in this NFC East prime time clash. Cheers!

Prediction = OVER 45 Total Points
