Edmonton, Alberta will be rocking for the Grey Cup on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s thriller between the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Montreal is 13-6 on the season (9-10 ATS), including playoffs. Saskatchewan comes into the big game at 12-8 (10-10 ATS). Kickoff is set for 6 PM EST.
Saskatchewan comes into the Grey Cup this year hoping to erase the haunting memory of last year’s championship game where they were called for having too many players on the field on the last play of the game. The Riders surprised Calgary in the West Final last week by a score of 20-16. The team features a vaunted passing attack with a slew of talented receivers. Western grad Andy Fantuz leads the charge as he piled up over 1,300 receiving yards in the regular season. Quarterback Darian Durant threw for over 5,500 yards to pace the 2nd ranked passing attack in the CFL. The defense was solid against the pass all season but struggled in stopping the run. The run defense gave up 137.4 yards per game, which ranked 8th in the CFL.
Montreal comes into the Grey Cup looking to defend last year’s championship title. The Als pounded Toronto 48-17 in the East Final a week ago and are coming in as the favorite. They boast an even better passing attack than Saskatchewan as they ranked first in the CFL in the regular season. The Alouettes put up 315.2 yards per game passing this season. Ageless quarterback Anthony Calvillo once again led the charge for Montreal. The star pivot tossed for 4,839 yards and 32 touchdowns, versus just 7 interceptions. The team did a great job of stopping the run in the regular season, allowing just 96.6 yards per game on the ground. This was tops in the whole league. As such, this figures to be a pass heavy Grey Cup.

Grey Cup (Roughriders vs. Alouettes) Betting Prediction:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Saskatchewan is looking to exorcise the demons from last year’s catastrophic loss. That can be a tough way for a team to play. Montreal was the class of the league again this season and the Riders a re a bit of a surprise in the final. However, the Grey Cup usually brings out the best in both teams playing and stays fairly close. Montreal is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Grey Cups. Also, the Riders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 against Montreal heads up.
Game Total Prediction – With the two best passing attacks in the CFL on display, expect an aerial show in the Edmonton night on Sunday. That doesn’t necessarily mean we should expect a lot of points though. Trends are pointing towards this game going under the posted total of 51 points. Seven of Saskatchewan’s last 8 playoff games have gone under the total. The total has also gone under in 9 of Montreal’s last 13 following a win.
