Tigers are out of their element within farm life, but LSU’s Tigers have been lounging on Aggie lands since Texas A&M came into the SEC in 2011. They hold an 8-1 lead in the series since then. The lone Aggies win was the scintillating 74-72 win in College Station in 2018.  The game lasted 7 overtimes and is arguably the greatest game in the history of college football. LSU has a 34-21-3 lead in the series.

Last Week:

Tigers freshman quarterback TJ Finley hit Jaray Jenkins on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 3:59 remaining as LSU outlasted Arkansas, 27-24. The Tigers’ Jay Ward blocked a field goal with 1:24 remaining to preserve the win. Finley competed 27 of 42 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

Texas A&M hasn’t played for two weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions as the Aggies last game was on Nov. 7 at South Carolina where they destroyed the Gamecocks, 48-3. They put up 530 total yards in that game as running back Isaiah Spiller carried 18 times for 131 yards.

When LSU Has the Ball:

LSU Tigers LogoFinley has settled in nicely as the Tigers’ starting quarterback after Myles Brennan’s injury. Finley is super athletic and can allude the pass tush which is something LSU will need as the Aggies have found opposing quarterbacks 16 times so far this season. Ty Davis-Price seems to have settled in at running back for the youthful Tigers with 100-yards plus in two of the last three games.

Michael Clemons leads that pass rushing assault with four sacks while Buddy  Johnson and Aaron Hansford have two each. It’s very likely that the Aggies can take away the run and turn LSU into a pass only team with a rushing defense that yields only 95 yards per game. The adjustments that the LSU offensive coaches can make for Finley will be very important in this case

When Texas A&M Has the Ball:

Texas A&M Aggies LogoIt seems like Kellan Mond has been the Aggies quarterback since the days of the old Southwest Conference, but he has been on point in both the passing and running game. He’s completed 64 percent of his passes with 16 touchdown tosses and only two interceptions in the six games. Isaiah Spiller’s emergence has given Texas A&M a balanced offense as he averaged 107.2 yards per game and 5.8 yards per carry.

LSU is a young football team learning the ropes in the COVID-19 era. Much of this can he seen with a defense that has struggled from day one with Bo Pelini’s system. The Tigers have been ravaged for 478 yards per game including 335 through the air, which is 123rd out of 130 teams. Mond has learned patience and has been groomed well in Jimbo FIsher’s system. The potential for him to have a big evening with running back Ainias Smith and Jalen Wydermyer combining on nine touchdown catches.
