Memphis vs. Temple Pick:
The Owls win over East Carolina last week vaulted them to within a half game of the conference lead and created a 5-way tie for the lead in the AAC making this a very important game for both teams who need this win to attain bowl eligibility. The Owls’ win last week was their first over a team with a winning record since October of 2011. Memphis is one of the 5 teams tied for the lead, and the Tigers can match their highest win total since 2008 with a win here. Memphis has a 2-0 record on the road in AAC games this season.
The Owls won over ECU despite being out-gained 428 yards to 135, in large part because they were able to force turnovers and play well on special teams. They blocked a field goal and recovered an astounding 5 fumbles. Memphis has won its last two games, but they defeated an 0-7 SMU team and a 1-7 Tulsa team that Temple also handled earlier this season. Both teams have very strong defenses, with the Tigers ranking higher in terms of total defense. Temple plays more of a bend but don’t break style, and has managed to keep teams out of the end zone with their ability to create turnovers and create pressure. On the road they will be a very tough team for Memphis to play, despite their outstanding running game. Memphis may be able to escape with a win, but the OWLs are a solid play here catching more than a touchdown. Take Temple and the points here.
