Nebraska vs. Ohio State Pick – NCAAF Week 10

Nebraska and Ohio State clash at the horseshoe in Columbus for a meeting of top teams in the BIG 10. There is no surprise that Ohio State are there at the top, but there are some surprises that they have a loss on their resume. Penn State pulled off the unthinkable and beat the Buckeyes at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lion have had a resurgence of sorts in 2016, with the apex coming at the expense of Ohio State. The Buckeyes are down, but they aren’t out yet.

Remember they still have a game against a top 4 team, their rival, the University of Michigan. A win against Michigan and some slip-ups from Clemson, Washington, or another loss for Texas A&M would more than likely put them back in the playoff picture. All it could take is that win against the Wolverines, though. If the Aggies can hang around at the top with a loss on their schedule, then Ohio State should be there by beating Michigan.

There is a ways to go in the regular season and a lot will change. More could change tonight if Nebraska were able to get a piece of the Buckeyes, too. The Cornhuskers have one loss as well, their first loss of the season coming last week against Wisconsin. Nebraska brought Wisconsin to overtime, but failed to win in a 23-17 loss. They need to have a short memory, as they head on the road again this week to Columbus. It would have been a major springboard for Nebraska if they pulled the win off, but they will have another opportunity for that springboard forward this week against the Buckeyes. The lines makers aren’t showing much support to Nebraska, who come in as 17-point underdogs.

The public is jumping all over the points with Nebraska. I imagine by kickoff 65-70 percent will be on the Cornhuskers. Ohio State did not look great last week either, escaping Northwestern by a score of 24-20. It almost feels like the Buckeyes are already looking ahead to the Michigan game, without taking the moment into consideration. We’ll see if they take it to Nebraska tonight at home under the lights and look like the real Buckeyes.

Nebraska vs. Ohio State Pick:

Nebraska will have to get a big game from quarterback Tommy Armstrong. Armstrong was part of the problem last week against Wisconsin, as he threw for no touchdowns with 2 interceptions. It was a very hard matchup for Armstrong against a top-flight secondary. Nothing is going to get easier for the Nebraska offense this week on the road, in a night game at the horseshoe. If you think that Armstrong is going to suddenly find his groove against the Ohio State defense then you have another thing coming. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, his best game coming against Oregon in a 35-32 win. The Ducks are a disaster of a team this season, notably the defense, so it isn’t the most gleaming endorsement for Armstrong.

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has been having a nice season. He’s been a lot more careful with the football, throwing only 4 interceptions to go along with 17 touchdowns. Barrett has rushed for 6 touchdowns, too. The offense hasn’t looked excellent since the Oklahoma game, though. Yeah, they put up 58 points on Rutgers, but I’m not really going to count that one. Against Oklahoma, Barrett passed for 4 touchdowns in a 45-24 romp in Oklahoma.

In the last three weeks, Ohio State has won by an average of 4.6 points, the one win coming against Wisconsin in overtime. They’ve just been lackadaisical, which is why you are seeing everyone take the points with Nebraska. Everyone just saw the Cornhuskers take Wisconsin to overtime, so why not the same result in Ohio? Ohio State is primed for a big beat down game, and I think this is a nice spot to do it against Nebraska, who are playing two of the best teams in the BIG 10 on consecutive weeks on the road. I see the final score looking something similar to the Oklahoma game. Barrett and the offense will look sharp in primetime at home under the lights.

PICK: OHIO STATE -17 (-110)
