Nevada vs Louisiana Tech Spread Line and Predictions

The 14th ranked Nevada Wolfpack (11-1, 6-1 in WAC), fresh off of their upset of then number 3-ranked Boise St. last week when they ended the Broncos 24-game winning streak and ended their hopes of reaching the BCS National Championship Game, take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3) this Saturday (3:00pm ET) with a chance to clinch a share of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) title for the first time in five years. The Wolfpack will be trying to avoid a letdown against Louisiana Tech after what Coach Chris Ault called, “the great victory this university has ever had, I can tell you that”.

Last week the Nevada offense put up a season-high 528 yards of total offense, including 369 rushing yards, against a Boise St. team that came into the game 2nd in FBS in total defense with 229.2 YPG allowed. The Wolfpack features a diverse rushing attack that ranks fourth in the nation with 301.4 rushing years per game, with dual-threat quarterback Colin Kaepernick and running back Via Taua who leads the WAC in rushing with 1,372 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Nevada defense ranks 65th in the nation with an average of 371.4 YPG allowed, but they allow only 22.5 PPG good for 39th in the nation. Without question the strength of the defense is stopping the run, the Wolfpack allow only 113.3 YPG on the ground, 18th best in the country.

Louisiana Tech also boasts a strong running game, ranking third in the conference with an average of 177 yards per game on the ground. Last week against San Jose St, the Bulldogs put up a season-high 364 rushing yards in a 45-38 shootout victory on the road. Running back Lennon Creer is their main ball carrier and is second in the WAC with 1,132 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns on the season. The Bulldogs are a bit less formidable on defense to say the least as they rank 112th in the country in total yards per game allowed with 448.9. They are 117th against the pass with an average of 302.1 YPG allowed through the air.

Louisiana Tech is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 conference games. Nevada is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite and also 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in December. The over is 7-2 in Nevada’s last 9 road games and the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a road favorite. The over is 15-5-1 in Louisiana Tech’s last 21 WAC games.

Nevada vs. Louisiana Tech Betting Predictions:

Spread Prediction (Top Play) – Nevada should roll in this game assuming they do not suffer from a hangover effect from last week’s victory over Boise St. The Bulldogs dismal pass defense should allow Kaepernick to have a field day through the air and the combo of Taua and Kaepernick running the ball from the Wolfpack’s spread option offense will be too much for the outmanned La. Tech defense to deal with. Nevada’s ability to stop the run should allow them to neutralize La. Tech’s only real strength in their running game, and the high-scoring Wolfpack offense will likely force the Bulldogs to the air often as they will have to play catch-up all day long. This is not a good scenario for La. Tech and Nevada should cover with plenty of breathing room.

PREDICTION (Top Play) – Nevada -7.5

Over/Under Prediction– Take the under here, this should be primarily a one-sided affair with Nevada piling up the points and La. Tech pretty much getting shut down. Nevada will score a whole lot of points in this one against one of the worst pass defenses in the country, but the Wolfpack’s tough run defense will limit La. Tech’s ability to put points on the board and control the clock. Expect the total to be high but it should sneak in under 69.5.

PREDICTION –Under 69.5
