Oklahoma Nebraska Spread Line Big 12 Championship Predictions

The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big 12 Championship game. The ‘Huskers haven’t won the Big 12 since 1999 but the game promises to be a war between a pair of the conference’s flagship teams. It also serves, perhaps, as a tearful goodbye between the foes as Nebraska will be leaving the conference for the riches of the Big Ten.

The Oklahoma Sooners, as expected, make a return to the conference championship game. With the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium now rocked and ready, it will serve as the backdrop. With Texas’ failures this year—they are missing out on a bowl game for the first time since 1997— the going was much easier for the Sooners than it is usually. Landry Jones had a good season and running back Demarco Murray plowed through holes while juking defenders throughout. Jones has been instrumental in being a part of the nation’s 4th-ranked pass offense. If the offensive line can give him time, it should make for a much more powerful Oklahoma offense, as opposed to the one that put up only three points on the Huskers a year before.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers, on their final parade around the Big 12 conference, find themselves where the majority of their fans rightfully expect: the conference championship game. This year’s Nebraska team has featured a lot of good but some inconceivable bad. Texas beat Nebraska by a score 20-13. But, Texas had trouble with everyone else in the division and conference while Nebraska, behind the 8th best rush offense and the 8th best total defense, used balance throughout to win the North division of the Big 12. A big question this time around (it was 10-3 Nebraska in 2009) will be whether the Husker offense can get enough going in the passing game. The Huskers—ranked 108th in pass offense— need to find some success through quarterback Zac Martinez to open up the running game for tailback Roy Helu Jr. If they can do that, they may be staring down the barrel of a BCS Bowl bid in their Big 12 farewell.

Oklahoma vs. Nebraska Big 12 Championship Predictions:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – You can imagine the parting shots and message board fodder to follow should Nebraska leave the Big 12 with a championship trophy. But, it doesn’t’ seem as likely to happen. The ‘Huskers have had problems moving the ball against good defenses while Oklahoma seems to be finding their second gear this late in the season. Look for Oklahoma , who is 5-1 ATS in their last six December games, to keep it going and move into a BCS game—perhaps the Orange Bowl.

Top Play Prediction = Oklahoma -4

Game Total Prediction –The Oklahoma defense hasn’t played to its potential most of the season but expect that to change on Saturday to a Nebraska team that struggles in the big time. There is no questioning the might of the Nebraska defense but look for the OU defense to follow suit and keep this a relatively low-scoring affair.

Game Total Prediction = Under 54
