Panthers Giants Spread Line and Prediction Week 1

The home opener for Giants is sure to bring out more screaming fans than a Justin Bieber ever concert ever could. This being the debut of the New Meadowlands there’s not much more you could ask for. Lots of drama surrounds this game, Steve Smith of the Panthers playing the same team that broke his arm last season, John Fox being in the last year of his contract and rumor has it Giants Coach Tom Coughlin could be out if he fails to make the playoffs which paves the way for Fox, and of course how Giants RB Brandon Jacobs responds to losing his starting job. Game starts 1:00 pm EST

Carolina has looked very weak on offense this preseason and must be praying that it does not carryover to their week one game against the Giants. Matt Moore was 4-1 down the stretch last season and one of those wins was against the Giants. Steve Smith is back and healthy and has already engaged in a little “smack” talk a couple Giants defenders. The running game should play a factor here since the Panthers have two of the best in the league. Another bright spot for the Panthers is in the trenches. The offensive line had its rough times during the preseason, but are one of the better units anchored by LT Jordan Gross and should be fine. As for the defensive line it has looked just short of great, despite the loss Julius Peppers. There secondary anchored by Cornerbacks Chris Gamble and Richard Marshall should not disappoint either.

The New York Giants are immensely talented, but often frustrating team to watch because they do not always live up to potential. They have great depth on the defensive line, yet last season couldn’t get to the passer, releasing Antonio Pierce was a mistake, and Eli Manning will always be the “Other” Manning. Despite these concerns they did win the Super Bowl a few years ago and have kept mostly the same core group of guys together. A team like this should be a lock for the playoffs, but the Giants prove the cliché “games are played on the field, not on paper”. Eli Manning is a great QB in the prime of his career and will have to undoubtedly win some games for his team. The fact still remains that the running game is not what it once was after seeing Jacobs and Bradshaw run for just over 1600 yards combined last season, however if the Giants can show some consistency on defensive line it will help out their improved secondary and this team has got a shot to make some noise.

Panthers vs Giants Spread Line and Betting Predictions:

New York Giants -6.5
@ Carolina Panthers +6.5

Spread Prediction (Top Play) – Carolina +6.5 is the smart play here. Sure the Giants may have a little more balance, but they always have trouble stopping the run. I believe in the Panthers rushing attack. The Panthers will eat up clock and keep this one close late and if the Giants win it won’t be a blowout or by 7.

Top Play Prediction: Carolina Panthers +6.5

Game Total:

Over (-110)
Under (-110)

Game Total Prediction – The under is the way to go here. Both teams have a good defense, but a great QB can beat a great defense and by my count there is only one great QB in this game. Panthers will attempt to control the clock by running the football, but if the Giants score quickly, the Panthers could be playing catch up all game long. It will be a good game though, take the under here.

Prediction: Over 40
