Patriots Jets Spread, Line and Predictions Week 2

In what should easily be the best game of the entire weekend the New England Patriots go to New Jersey to take on the New York Jets. This rivalry has taken on a completely new dynamic since the hiring of Rex Ryan to New York, while many don’t like him he is embraced by his players and fans of the Jets alike. Rex will have his players ready to play 60 minutes of physical smash mouth football against the Patriots. On the other sideline you have cool, calm, and collected Bill Belichick who is considered the best coach in the NFL by many. He preaches preparation and discipline amongst all things. Many people have different opinions on Belichick, but the one that sticks is he’s a winner. All this drama between the coaches and I haven’t even got to the players yet. Game starts at 4:15 PM EST.

New England, who is one of the most difficult teams to beat, has to go on the road in a divisional matchup that should be one for the ages. Tom Brady is officially back in case you couldn’t tell from last week’s performance in which he had no problems shredding a very good Bengals defense, Wes Welker also seemed to be pretty healthy catching two touchdowns in the opener, and having the best deep threat in the history of football Randy Moss speaks for itself, the only problem is Moss has to take a trip to “Revis” island. The only thing that worries me is the defense as a whole. There is no leadership on defense, the secondary is full of young kids, and the linebackers are young too, Jerod Mayo is on his way to becoming elite, but I wouldn’t call him elite quite yet and the defensive line had some key injuries like Ty Warren being out for the season. With Belichick being the defensive guru he is it will be very interesting to see what he has in store for the Jets.

The Jets must be feeling nervous heading into this game, despite saying all the right things they know how big of a hole they could put themselves in if they go 0-2. The Jets can say what they want and have all this swagger, but it comes down to performing on the field and all eyes will be on QB Mark Sanchez on Sunday. This team can talk about Defense and the running game all they want, but they know it’s a QB driven league and if they want to meet their goal of winning the Super Bowl, Sanchez must step up. With that said the return of Darrelle Revis was huge because he is going to be lined up on Moss all day. The Defense will have to carry the Jets during this one and anything they get from the Offense will be a bonus. I think Rex Ryan will pressure Brady and look for the Offense to take some shots early because they are going to have to score early and play with a lead to win this one.

Patriots vs Jets Prediction for Week Two Betting:

Spread Prediction (Top Play): These are the picks that make you really think could there be a tougher game to call this week than this one. This one truly is a coin flip, the NY JETS are 2-2 against the spread versus NEW ENGLAND over the last 3 seasons. I like the Jets here, they are loaded on the defensive side of the ball and have the ability to make life tough for Brady. I also think that this game is more important to the Jets than the Patriots. The running game of the Jets will keep the Patriots off the field and limit their chances to score. One big play here could be the difference.

Top Play Prediction: Jets +3

Game Total Prediction: In games in which the Jets are at home two out of two games in this series have gone UNDER the last 3 seasons. I like the under here again and I believe it will be 3 out of 3. The Jets defense is outstanding, Moss will have a hard time getting free from Revis in two games against him last year Moss had less than 100 yards receiving. I give the Patriots Offense a lot of credit, but Rex Ryan will find out how to expose this Offense. The Patriots might score first, but it won’t be a lot. Tough game to call, but if I’m picking I’m taking the under.

Prediction: Under 38.5 points.
