Two of the most downtrodden franchises in the NFL will do battle in one of the late afternoon games in Week 2. The St Louis Rams travel to the Black Hole to meet the Oakland Raiders. Game time is set at 4:15 EST.
The Rams have started the Sam Bradford era at quarterback right away and they didn’t have the training wheels on him for Week One. The number 1 overall pick out of Oklahoma threw 55 passes and completed 32 of them for 253 yards and a touchdown. However, as rookie QB’s often do, Bradford threw 3 interceptions in a 17-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Bradford, and the Rams as a whole, did some nice things in their opener and may have given their long suffering fans a glimmer of hope for the future. St Louis led the game into the fourth quarter and had several chances to retake the lead late in the contest. The Rams were getting 3 points in the loss and failed to cover the spread. The defense still looked weak in giving up 378 yards to Derek Anderson and the Cards. The Rams have struggled outside of their dome, going 2-8 ATS on grass in their last 10.
Oakland was somewhat hyped in the offseason to maybe return to respectability this season but looked a long way off in their first game. Tennessee pounded Oakland 38-13 in Week 1, building a 21 point lead in the second quarter. The Raiders had absolutely no answer for RB Chris Johnson, allowing 142 yards and 2 scores from CJ2K. Overall, the Raiders defense was gashed for over 200 rushing yards in their opener. QB Jason Campbell and running back Darren McFadden were bright spots for Oakland. Campbell was 22 of 37 for 180 yards and McFadden ran for 95 yards and had 55 more through the air. The Raiders have recently shown an ability to bounce back, going 6-0 ATS following a loss ATS.

Rams vs Raiders Prediction for Week 2:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Oakland looked absolutely awful on the road in their first game but usually put up a much better effort at home. Rookie QB’s like Sam Bradford don’t generally fare well in hostile environments like the Black Hole in Oakland. The Rams are 14-30 ATS in their last 44 games following a straight up loss.
Game Total Prediction – The Raiders’ defense proved last week that they could be beat by a good running game. I expect the Rams’ game plan to focus more on RB Steven Jackson and lessen the load for Bradford in a tough environment. Oakland’s best chance to win is to go with the hot hand in Darren McFadden. This game looks like it has all the makings of an ugly ground battle.
